when i was 16 i lost my licence for stunting ( i was driving a beater roadrunner that burnt as much oit as gas) and was beside a mustang at a set of lights on a main street, the mustang beat my butt badly because i saw a cop right behind me in my rearview mirror. so obviously i didn't hammer it, but the combined sound of the mustangs tiers screaming and all the oil smoke from my car the cop figured i was and anyway i got pulled over as the slower / safer one to catch, i didn't fight it and lost my licence. anyway part of the terms set out for me to get it back was a night in the city morgue to see the effects of drinking/stunting/careless driving. i wish they would still do this before anyone received there licence, really set me on the strait and narrow, gave me a new respect for the law , why it's in place and the fragility of life. the one vision that is burned into my mind is a guy who was wheeled in that was drinking and hit a truck head on , he looked like a midget at first untill they pulled the sheet back and showed us his femurs where pushed 3/4 of the way into his chest cavity, the report from the paramedics said he has still alive after extraction and died during transport.

I just hope everyone on this board is smart enough, not to drink and drive. We can still be killed by drunk drivers, i want to know why people must go drink and drive thinking they aren't immpared.

Don't Drink and Drive
Learned my lesson the hard way (DUI) but at the same time not arguing, if it wasnt for the person in my passenger seat I would have never been pulled over. Made me realize I need to pick friends a little better.

I honestly didnt think or feel in any way drunk, and I blew a .08, the legal limit. I am sure if my buddy was not a belligerant edit the guy's would have just followed me home, or let me sit and then have me go home. Though through my friends belligerance (even in police report, how I acted civil, did everything they asked, etc) I ended up in jail overnight, and have this on my record now.

At the moment I am still dealing with it. Don't know the exact word for it, but I lost the love of my life through drunk driving and I am not trying to make this sound stupid or make fun of anyone who has lost a loved one, but driving is my passion, regardless if it is in my old haggard truck. I know I will have her back soon enough, but while my the friend I was with that night still has his license and can do whatever whenever, I want to kick him in the groin every time i see the edit.

Thats all on that one for me.

I just learned a good lesson 3 weeks ago today.

Thats the day I wrecked my old 95 chevy I had durin high school. I had a tie rod end brake and the truck pulled to the right, I hit a drain tile and went up in the air and hit a telephone pole and rolled 3 times down a hill. I was 2 miles from my house and had to be med flighted.

I was lucky and was threw out of the truck but now I'm layin here in bed with 20 somethin pins and plates in my right hip, 2 rods holdin my whole right leg together, wearin a back brace cause I cracked my L2, L3, and T4 in my back and just now feel like doin anything. I still have 5 weeks for I'm even cleared to try and walk or get up without the back brace.

I wasn't drinkin or anything it just goes to show how things can happen, why make things worse.

I just call my boys 16 and 17 and have them drive me home!

I do not have $10k to spend on legal fees. I need my truck for work and do not want it impounded for any reason. It is entirely too easy to pick up the phone and call someone who cares about you to help you out and $10k will buy a whole lot of taxi service and keep your sorry butt ALIVE!!

PLEASE don't take this message lightly as the life you save may be your own!!

Rick

Get well soon buddy.

When i was in middle school, I attended a mock car accident from drunk driving at a local high school. Even though it was fake, it spoke big words to me. I still have the video they made....complete from the part where the drinking occured to the scene of the accident and even the funeral of one of the "deceased"...and they even had on film a police officer telling a mother her son did not survive. even though it was mock, it taught me a lot of things. the mock drunk driving accidents are done at high schools across the country and are called "shattered dreams"

When Shattered Dreams was at my high school when i was in school, all of the students they selected to act in the accident were the partiers and the drunks, one of which later got a DWI. I hated that....cause those kids acted that day....but really did drink and drive on the weekends. That still bothers me.

In high school i never touched alcohol or would even go near it til my senior year because of "shattered dreams." My senior year I became good friends with lots of partiers because i was there to take them home and be the responsible one. It was a ton of responsibility....sometimes too much.

Even now in college, i will not touch alcohol but will be the first one to volunteer to drive home. Yes I receive lots of negative comments but i dont care. I wish more had people had the attitude i have towards alcohol....under age drinkers that is....i have no problem at all with responsible drinking.

in Texas there is a large campaign aimed against drunk driving. This picture is displayed in all high schools in Texas (i apologize for probably not having the authority to use this photo, but I am supporting the cause)

The picture on the bottom left is of the girl before a drunk high school football player in Travis County, Texas hit her head on.

Pictures speak a thousand words.

Wow...that's all I can say. I have been stupid once, but generally try and wait a long while, even after a beer or two. That picture is awful

Please, don't drink and drive; if not for you, for the innocent family in the car next to you.
