Re:Drive Friendly?

I guess I'm just tooooo friendly, most of the time.

I'm the guy that will stop traffic behind him to let someone onto the road, especially if I've seen them trying for a while.
(helps being able to see over everything but semi's and dump trucks)
Sometimes I'll even block the lane next to me so the person can turn left across traffic, flashing the headlights to let them know it's clear (since they obviously can't see around me)

I'm the guy in the hammer lane that politely moves over to let the idiot going 80 past, signaling before changing lanes of course.

I'll slow down traffic on the freeway behind me to let the semi pulling doubles merge, gives me a nice warm feeling to see the trucker flash his brakelights at me in thanks.

I guess I kinda belive in Karma, whats comes around goes around kind of thing.
Do unto others, etc.

(insert Yoga smiley here ;D )

I've never given the one finger wave or yelled bad words out the window.
Sure, I'll honk at the idiot that doesn't see the 7 foot tall, 8,000# truck he just pulled in front of, mutter some words under my breath, but that's it.
Occasionally I'll give them the "what in the heck were you thinking" open armed shrug.

A set of Grover air horns - that's what I want for Christmas And a photon torpedo tube on the front. ;D Working on the 50 cal ring mount for the roof. Who needs a sunroof if you have a Bofors?

Having to tackle RTP traffic to the tune of 25 miles each way I have decided to be just a little slower than the really fast idiots, leave AT LEAST two car lengths in front of me in at-speed traffic, let the ricers and soccer Moms go around me, and try to keep my blood presure from blowing the spygamometer dial out. A little tune on the radio helps as well as knowing I have a professional job and I don't have to punch a clock or be anywhere at any specific time unless I think I need to.

Patience came to me late in life I reckon. Let the other fools hit each other, just keep me out of it and I will drive around them and go merrily on my way. Besides, insurance is too expensive these days to prove a point by damaging my truck.

Re:Drive Friendly?

hotdram, I guess I'll have to chime in on this one. All good advice from the others so far, and here is another thought: if someone is behind you they have the advantage of unexpected idiocy, while you have traffic in front of you to contend with. I like to let them go on by so I can keep them from having a negative impact (figuratively or otherwise) on me getting safely where I'm going. As long as they are in front of me I can keep an eye on their shenanigans and reduce any influence or control they had over me. That leaves ME in control. ;D ;D If they run a ways up and have an accident, I can be a witness for the police as to who was the cause; or I can take the next exit and bypass the scene and get to where I'm going safely and in reasonably good time - a thing they gave up by being stupid. Patience came to me later in life as well, but it keeps my blood pressure down to shrug it off and go about my own life - I don't need any of their problems from stupidity added to my own.

Re:Drive Friendly?

Thanks for all the replies. Patience isn't my problem (I'm in no hurry to get to work) but the desire to "teach that idiot a lesson" seems to be my problem. Recently I have tried the "let them go around me and not bother them routine" and it has seemed to help quite a bit. I am much more relaxed when I do this. I too, do not punch a clock (like redramnc), therefore I have adjusted the time I go to work so as not to be on the road during peak traffic times (I like to go in early and get it over with). I guess age is setting in and the fact that I really do not want to run my truck into someone or meet one of guys or gals in blue, nor do I want to get shot. From now on a simple tap of the brakes if I think you are to close and a wave of the ENTIRE hand if you feel the need to careen past me at 80 mph while switching 3 lanes on your cell phone without a turn signal. I will be able to sleep with myself (no sheep here) at night knowing that I was not the root cause of an accident by cutting off someone because they are driving like a jerk.

Re:Drive Friendly?

A wise choice, my friend. There will always be idiots out there who callously endanger others, and trying to "teach them a lesson" almost without exception makes them act even worse. You cannot "save the world" from itself - only The Lord can do that. Once a person understands this, they can help those who ask, and let the rest go their own way without feeling responsible for the actions of others. Just let the stress go out the window, and stay focused on where you are taking YOUR life. ;D

Isn't it funny how we get irate at people who drive like we used to in our foolish years ??

There was many times that my camaro saw 120 plus heading down the highway. Re:Drive Friendly?

i generally do about 5mph over the speed limit. i have no problem with people going the speed limit, but i hate people who go the speed limit or under in the fast lane. that's just plain ignorance > (i'm talking staying there, not quickly moving over as i have no problem with people moving to the right lanes). i also have a real problem with tailgaters. they usually get some smoke and very rarely some brake lights. when i see their headlights disappear beneath my tailgate in my rearview mirror- they're too close! do like to accelerate fast, but i don't drive like a maniac.

otherwise, i'm pretty tame- taking notice to stay in the right lane as much so as to not annoy innocent people with the exhaust. and i'm very respectful to truckers, no matter what speed they're going at.

btw, my 5" drop reciever hitch is ALWAYS on!

Tom

Drop receivers are great. I keep mine on all the time just for a little added protection.

If everyone would just drive like I do then things would be fine. ;D

Re:Drive Friendly?

I agree, drop receivers are nice to keep attached. I just wish I had the Ranchhand rear bumper like I had on my last truck. Oh well.

Re:Drive Friendly?

On of the trucks my brother own'd he had full replacement RanchHand bumpers. And everytime someone would hit him he always had a can of black spray paint and would walk out spray the spot that mess'd up and would either wait if the other person wanted him to or just leave. The rear bumper had a 10in drop so it would really hurt the other person's car.
