Dodge Magnum
Cummin to a P.D. near you!
Or is it?
Our guys are doing some testing for patrol use out at the Grattan Raceway today. Just rolled one and had a small fire. Sounds like maybe minor injury. Don't know at this point weather it was driver error or less than expected performance. I'll try to find out.

Driver wasn't hurt bad, just taken in to be checked over. Still not sure what happened. Maybe he was looking east into the rising sun.

Well, at this point, the Magnum is pulled from the line-up this year. Sounds like the spin-out was caused by an issue with the braking. The other one they had, also spun out in a serpentine, because of a possible throttle issue. That's all I'll have for today.

Almost all the companies our there today do a little r&d on thier products, but there's no way they can get all the bugs out unitl it is in full production and there are many possible ways to break it. Think of all the enviroments, and situations, and driving habits that are out there, I don't think they could account for all of them in a lab. Nah, don't trust a first model year. Good thing I did'nt with the 03s. Have'nt reall heard much bad about them, but I had peace of mind anyways.

Actually bdramsey, the 03s have been pretty good while the 04s have had the problems with vibrations, injectors, and bad mileage. Mine's been just fine.
As far as that Magnum goes, I'd like to have one in the garage w/ a Hemi in it but I get really irritated when the commercials say "From $24,000" and then at the bottom of the screen in tiny letters it says "Model shown $34,000". I think the car is sweet though....

Update....
Looks like the cause of the crash was the ABS. An engineer had done some prior tweaks and the computer got confused after a serpentine. It sensed the slippage and didn't readjust itself or sense the speed increase in a straight-away. When the drivewr got to the next curve it wasn't giving him the braking he needed (pretty much no brakes)and he launched, striking a tree(in the air) and rolled it. The problem supposedly was fixed and the model is being looked at again. The other spin- out was apparently from a broken accelerator cable though. The guys say they like the car, handles and accelerates well, real good center of gravity(compared to current patrol model). Also 07 may be bringing a 4dr sedan.

My wife thinks we need one too. Told her that there were already too many cars in the drive. But if she wanted, I could find room for another dually .
Anybody remember the Magnum from the 80's? There is one parked in my stepmoms' barn I'm kinda trying to get. It's been parked since about 1990 or earlier and has about 30K miles on it.
Sure would be fun to have one for a patrol car. Guess I'll have to talk to State.
