None of the above. Always wear mine, but out of habit. First car was a '77 Ford LTD 460/C6 and I figured anything that could hurt me in that tank would kill me anyway, next car was a Mercury Topaz. That drop away hood design was very unsettling, started wearing a seatbelt and never stopped.

Don't worry, "They" are working on it.
Getting so you can't enjoy a good tobacco product anywhere in public anymore.

I never wear mine and probably never will. Just hard headed i guess. I have totaled 2 trucks and didn't get a scratch in either wreck.

I am glad the govt requires seat belts. Insurance rates are lower and lives are saved. I can't think of one good reason why anyone would not want to wear one.

I also like cleaner engines, emission standards, speed limits, helmet laws for motorcycles, etc.....I do understand the argument about individual rights....Lets make a new law that says that if a person does not use reasonable caution (seat belt or helmet) and suffer damage that normally would not have been suffered if reasonable caution had been used, then damages to the negligent that would not reasonably occured not be given.

I have no problem with govt setting standards on any health related subject so long as it reasonably protects the citizen. Actually I am thankful to my govt for providing that I live a reasonably safe environment. I will not agree or abide with any ruling or law that requires me to eat grits.

dodgediesel4x4, no i don't know this family.

I have worn a helmet inside the cab when chasing hogs so it wouldn't hurt my head so bad when it hit the roof.

I wear mine all the time. My wife and I both work in hospitals. She works in the operating room and I do CAT scans and x-rays. We both have seen our share of traumas from wrecks. I scan them, then send them up to her and she helps put them back together. It is amazing the difference in injuries and the severity of those injuries between people who were wearing belts and those who weren't.

I wear it as required. I take offense to the fact that the state collects money from me because I wasn't doing everthing to protect myself. It is my risk. I make a lot of stops locally and am always putting it on, taking it off.
I was hurt 35 years ago because it wasn't on. No one knows how I would of fared if it was.
I have had two spine surgeries in the last 7 years because of this accident. At least two more are soon. I use narcotics for pain control dailly. It is not good.
It is still my risk and choice when I wear it.
Guess what, My passengers wear it or get out.
I wear it correctly if going to drive over 30-35 mph. Sometimes it is just draped over me.
I feel the laws should make all drivers under 25 wear it or pay. Over that it should be choice. And ticketed for not wearing it if in an accident for anyone
Too train police officers to find those not wearing it and spend their time doing the clickit or ticket thing is crazy. Use them for real law breakers.

None of the above. I wear seatbelts because it's the smart thing to do. I wore them long before it became law.

How many gory fatality accident stories do you guys want?
Ya want to hear about the guy out by Dover KS, at a family reunion, who was giving his neices and nephews a ride around a pasture in his 4X4 chevy at about 15 mph when his left tires slipt into a ditch? The truck rolled, the kids were thrown clear, minor injuries.
He was partialy ejected through the drivers window, and his wife and son got to watch him being decapited? Barely ANY damage to the truck...
a seat belt would have made that just one of those" oops, I am soooo embarressed" things they would have laughed about......
How about a little 19 yr old girl, who was rear ended sitting at a light at 21st and Wannamaker Rd here about 1989.... she had not bothered with her seat belt, since she was just running to the mall. The sedan hit her at about 40-45mph, threw her car forward into the car in front of her. She went through 4 reconstructive surgerys for her face, but will have hard time finding dates for the rest of her life...I wear them because I hafe seen that they work , and dont allow my kids to even THINK about not putting it on.
My step-daughter thinks I am ****, because I will not allow her to just use the lap-belt portion, even if the shoulder strap is uncomfortable. They quite manufactoring lap-belt type restraints because they aren't as safe, and having that shoulder strap loose is a safety hazard.
The only time a seat-belt can injure you is if they are loose, tehn they can be quite dangerous.......

Ok, thanks fer listining....

I've been wearing mine since the early 70's for 2 reasons:

I saw the aftermath of a face plant on the windshield. I think it would have been better if the guy had died.

I took a ride in a "collision sled" the AAA's had at a local mall. I couldn't believe the jolt at 3 mph.

After that, it's always been on.

I was involved in an accident in 1988. Neither my passenger nor I were wearing seat belts. I was lucky - I just went head first into the A-pillar. My passenger put his head through the windshield.

I won't get into a vehicle without buckling up now. My vehicle doesn't move until every passenger is buckled up as well.

Experience is a painful but effective teacher.

This'll sound preachy, but I don't mind....

A vehicle in motion will roll very easily, regardless of make. Until I started working here, I would never have realized how many actually roll. When a vehicle rolls, the passengers are almost always ejected. When ejected, they are almost always maimed and/or killed. People think they are gonna be thrown clear are wrong. Roll a tennis ball through a shallow puddle and see where most of the water is thrown.... in line with it. Regardless, you are still traveling at least the speed of the vehicle maybe faster because of the added centrifgul force, when you finally hit the ground or whatever else. Try sprinting at a tree and stopping yourself with your arms. Do you think you can get over 10mph running? You think you can stop your body from hitting the wheel even at 25 mph? People worry about fires, if your belted, you'll probably at least get the opportunity to try to escape. Unbelted, you may not need to unbackle, but you probably won't be climbing out anyway. Ok, long enuff for now, I'll save all the stories
