I'll turn ya in!
I wear them and I make my little girl wear them ALWAYS. That being said It still feels like communism being forced to wear them by big brother. Same thing with helmits on a two wheeler.
Smart to Wear them, but I think it should be the drivers decision.

I agree totally, BTW. I don't think we need laws to force people to wear helmets and belts. What really honks me off is the checks that are popular here in our area. Bring four lanes of rushhour traffic to a standstill so the nice police officer can peek inside.
Wear em if ya want, unless you are in my ride! hahahaha

I don't even feel mine anymore on me. I'm so used to it now......
Don't wear Seatbelt = Much higher chances of being killed. Also, the chances of your seatbelt killing you are very slim. You are more likely to get in an accident in which your seatbelt will save your life. If you have a family and you love them, I would suggest wearing it or get a good life insurance policy.

Habit.
With the new laws on the books, everyone on my truck has to put one on, as the driver can and will get the ticket for any passenger not wearing one.
Hard for the nice policemen to glance inside to see if everyone is wearing one though.
Only time I don't wear it is when I'm 4wheeling, as it keeps locking up requiring me to remove it to reset it.
Makes it hard to get up to see out the window as well.
Manditory helmet laws though
don't get me started.

Habit from when I was a kid. The old man would not put the car in gear if all belts weren't buckled.
I wasn't so much afraid of accidents back then (too young to understand) as much as I was of my father's threat to inflict severe bodily damage to me if I didn't put it on.

If you want to know if seat-belts can help in an accident, just watch Nascar. None of those guys would ever make it to a ripe old age without seat-belts. I have heard tons of arguments against the use of them, but none of them make any sense.
Simple fact; truck comes to sudden stop when impacting an object, your body continues moving at the speed the truck was traveling until you hit the dash, windshield, steering wheel ect...ect...
Sadly they have to make these laws because some people are either too ignorant or just don't care that wearing seat belts save lives. The reason it becomes the business of the lawmakers instead of just "your choice" is because WE have to pay the medical bills of those who don't wear them.
On top of that Many accident victims are not insured so that places the burden of those bills on the local hospitals, care givers and tax payers. For those who are insured, the rest of us still get stung by higher insurance bills, because the insurance companies have to pass the loss on to the rest of us.
You may think it should be your choice, but the fact is it effects the rest of us financially by rising medical and insurance costs. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and wear your seatbelt
Seat-belts, it REALLY does effect everybody!

I had to identify a fellow worker in a morgue at 3AM in 1967. He was struck from the side - when he ran a stop sign - and was thrown out and run over several times.
They said if he had a seat belt on, he probably would have a bad headache. He was struck on the passenger side while driving alone.
If you ever have to tell a youn spouse with small kids that their husband/father will not be coming home, you WILL ALWAYS fasten your seat belts.
That morning, I went to an auto store and bought 6 sets of seat belts and spent the rest on the day installing them in my Rambler 880 Ambasador wagon.
Wear your seat belt(s) and forget about worring about police and possible serious injury.
Cheers f

Thanks, Rob. I was helping someone move ~ 15 years ago and we came upon an accident right after it happened. EMS wasn't there yet, but someone was holding a towel to a mans forehead. It was covered in blood from him hitting the windshield in his faded red Toyota Tercel. Minor damage to the front of the car, but it made me realize even a minor accident could cause serious injury. I started wearing mine then.
I agree with what Top said, but even if there was 100% compliance, I don't see insurance companies lowering our rates. They'd just come up with some other excuse to raise them.
I'm required to wear when in our work vehicles and I was near our local high school a couple of months ago when school got out. I saw TWO kids wearing them, out of 15-20 vehicles, most with 3-4 passengers. If this is representative of our newest drivers, social security might not go bankrupt after all.
Hate the law, Hate being told you have to, Hate check pionts. BUT the fact is they work. I started using them in my plane and then i put them on so i didn't have any conflics with the law and now its habit. I do put one of those large paper clips on the shoulder to keep it slightly loose on my chest. All in All they are good.
I didn't realize that this post would catch as much attention as it did. I guess more people wear them for more reasons that I thought. I know they save lives, but I still hate being told what to do in such as manner as this law. If they want to save more lives, then they should also make people stop smoking, dipping, or using any other tobacco product out there. I know that this is off the topic but it is also in the same ball park....saving lives. Who knows, maybe tomorrow, they will pass that law.... then I'll move to Mexico and start my own import/export company.....atleast I will be my "own boss" then...
