Let me rephrase: Not really "clean" as there are six holes where there should be one (entry, anyway). I wonder if this would be considered as using buckshot? Last I read, Wisconsin doesn't allow the use of buckshot for deer hunting. Of course, .69 cal. isn't really what they define buckshot as, either!
I don't know. I grew up in Wisconsin and can think of several individuals who would do that given the chance. After reading his stories on Camel Spiders, I am leaning toward the spoof theory myself. I wonder if that deer was shot after death to make the six wounds -- there doesn't seem to be the clotting and shock damage around the wounds like I would expect, based on years of rifle hunting white tailed deer.
but think about it this way, the projectiles are huge, round ***** of lead. their traveling relatively slow and therefore would not, most likely, inflick the kind of meat destroying impact as say 275 grains of hydroshoc lead traveling at a speed of let's say 3500fps. and on that note if one of the ***** just konked him in the head, it would knock him out long enough for you to walk up, check him out, and decide if he was going to make book.
So, this thing is loud, powerful, it smokes, and even though hitting a deer with it will cause major carnage, you shouldn't want to take one that way... I think I figured out why I thought it was cool.
It even gets the job done with 6 holes...
I talked to my buddy, who sent me that link. Apparently there was a tread about it, saying that the Wisconsin game enforcement folks contacted the guy and explained that hunting deer with a cannon in Wisconsin is illegal (narrow minded of them), and they wanted to know where the howitzer is....
He apparently explained that nowhere on his web page does he say that he actually took a deer with the thing, and as far as the photo goes, he'd be happy to provide them with one where the deer has two heads if they would like...
From the sounds of it, I'm not sure if the guy was saying it was a gag, or just that they couldn't prove anything... Looking at the photo, though, I thought it odd that all the hits were in a major part of the body... One would think there would have been at least one round that just clipped the thing, or hit a leg, nose, or whatever...
Still, I thought it was cute. For big game I generally prefer a handgun anyway, and I think it would be a bit tough to put a pistol grip on that thing.

Hmmm.... I dunno, look at the photo of the six hole dear, then look at the photo above that, do you or do you not find a hole in roughly the same area......
edit: I see something in roughly the same area, but then again, I would get sucked in to believing in the two headed deer too.....
