Dealership Prices
We've got a V-10 with 53,000 miles on it that's looking for a place to die. The fuel pump just went out, so I called up the local dodge dealer for a price. They don't have one in stock, but the last one they had was $450 a year ago, may be higher now. He then tells me it's a dealership part so don't worry about calling an auto parts store for one. Interesting I thought. I called the auto parts store after I was done with him. $239.95 and they've got one in stock. Everytime I talk to the dealership, I get a little more worried about them.
I have NEVER found a part cheaper at a dealership. Dealers are the last guys I call for a part, and thats even after calling the local salvage yards!-Steve
PS-Why isn't the V10 under warantee?

3 years/36,000miles, and it's a 2000, bought in 99. I knew the dealership would be higher, but I didn't think they'd tell me they weren't available at a parts store when they are.
It is called "Protecting Downstream Revenue" and dealerships appear, to me, to be very adept at it - especially when the customer is clueless. I am not "dealership bashing" here, just stating the obvious. Dealerships are in business to make a profit and this is a good way to do that.
