You had to setup just how insane Joker really is. The whole movie kept you thinking in that respect. Three different stories about his scars, Alfred's story in the "bat cave" to Bruce about the ruby thief. It was more than a simple mindless shoot'em up action movie. There was a bunch of stuff to keep up with.

Exactly, he is nuts and that helps to explain the multiple scar stories....but it looked to be over some people's heads.

to be honest either the producer and director were truly into the nose candy or the scrip was dumbed down for theyre concept of (todays person).i for one did not need those clue props about the gems in the jungle.or the (lets lead the poor fools so they wont get lost)approach.the scrip fell on its face, plain and simple.if they need help, which they did, they should have hired the writers that did silence of the lambs.that was a proper script,no clues, hints, special effects of merit, just good acting and writer who can tell a tail.if you liked the movie fine.but theyre are some of us have higher standards.i can tell that some of you were raised with ,(and still hold dear) the great script writers of power rangers and telletubbies.to each his own.
