Dallas, Texas Residents

Hey...strongly considering coming down to Texas to live from N.Y. I've been to the metroplex area and like that. I'd like to purchase a home where it can be a pretty decent size, around 3500 square feet or in and around there, and not be on top of the neighbors. Want some room to ride my four wheeler around. Any suggestions for communities?

Thanks for any input.

Go on line and look for the differnt places to live. Do you have Dallas as a "must have " location? Dallasis the white collar biz center, FT Worth is for of the old west cow town.
I am presently in Houstion, lot of large lots and home outside beltway .
Up aroutn Austin it a nice area, some say a bit pricey, but I have't checked it out.
Where in NY are you getting out of?

Hi...leaving Orange County. Its about one hour north of the city, Manhattan. I've seen Houston. From what I've seen, not my cup of tea. Austin is nice, sorta like you have to wear grungy wear to fit in. I've been looking on line...kind of a hit or miss thing with pictures...then you're not sure of real surroundings.

Hey pardner, we already got enough folks from north of the Red River and south of the Rio Grande around here!

Just kidding.

Truth is, you probably will not find what your looking for close in to Dallas. Also, weather you plan on working has a lot to do with it. It's probably not like the Big Apple, but traffic is the pits anywhere in the Dallas area. If you work from home, there are a lot of nice areas in any direction.

If you don't mind posting a little more info, I could probably point you in the right direction. Or, PM me with more information and I'll try to help you.

Several years ago I worked with a guy from NY while I was in Houston. A couple of years before that, NY was having a HARD winter with a lot of snow. Right in the middle of it, he called a real estate agent, put his house up for sale, gave the agent his brothers phone number, packed his wife and kids and drove to Houston. He said he would go back to NY in the summer to visit family, but would never move back there. I don't blame him....I hate cold weather!

I'm in the same boat as Texaspower19. Take a look at Weatherford maybe.

If you need some land to ride an ATV, you are going to have to go out in the country somewhat. Land is pricey, but it can be found. If you want to move in to a nice area in a regular neighborhood, look in Collin, Denton or Rockwall county communities. Rockwall is nice....so is Frisco and McKinney.

One nice thing, if you want to go ride your ATV on some real trails....there are several great riding parks (2000+ acres) within 200 miles of Dallas. Let me know if you want to go and we can plan a ride sometime.

One more thing.....if you want to move here...Get READY TO SWEAT!! This place is hotter than hell in the months of July and August. 100+ degree days every day without a drop of rain for 3 months. Swimming is about the only comfortable outdoor activity. The rest of the year is nice though. Very mild winters (helps keep crobtex happy most of the time ). If you love an occasional Snow storm ( like me)....forget it. It ain't coming here. Ice or nothing.

That's on the north side of Dallas, Ft. Worth. If you go on the south west side we had 2" of snow and a few days of ice, it was even 19* on Thursday night here. Wait, I didn't just talk you out of it did I?

Used to live in Ft.Worth back in the late 80's. Weatherford was a nice area. Used to go rock climbing at some park ( cant remember the name of it now ) and camping. A lot more snakes and spiders down there too.

This isn't the Weatherford you knew. It's been growing fast for the last 10 years. There is maybe a 5 mile gap between Weatherford and Ft. Worth.

If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. It is hot down here but I love it. I live for it. I was born in the middle of june in houston so heat is my middle name. Our days are tough but our nights sure are comfortable and that's when I come out of hiding.

Been talking to a realtor working the Rockwall area. I'll peak into here and also Heath. Sure are some real nice new homes popping up.
