Craziest thing you've seen another driver do...
Thanks, phox_mudler,
When I started this I wanted to keep it clean fun only.
It's neat to see how much really goes on out there. Also diustrubing how unaware other people often are at times such as DZLPWR's example....

I almost hit them and so did 5 others.

In a taxi in NYC, cruising down the BQE heading to the airport. Kid driving misses the exit. Slams on the brakes, drops it into reverse. No traffic immediately around us, but it's coming up fast. Swore he dropped the trans when it hit reverse. Couple of cars pass us on both sides as we're going backwards, he slams on the brakes again, then he drops it back in drive. Not sure how the trans is still under the car at this point. After we make the exit, he apologizes and says it's his first week on the job. Not sure how many more weeks he had after that one.
First one I can think of is, I was fixing the carb on our 70 Challenger. Took it for a test drive, I got tagged speeding and didnt know it, 30 in a 25
But the funny part was turned a corner stood on the brakes and nailed it, back of car in a cloud of smoke, and through the smokes could see the red and blues!!!
I had to drive to pull over since I was already stopped in the road.
Oh yeah when I was in the service, going back to Norfolk, from Tampa on I75, looked and saw the reb and blues again, when he walked up he said he was doing over 100mph and I was still pulling on him.
That was in a 77 Chrysler Newport with a 400, dunno how fast since speedo ONLY goes to 100. Since then I have wised up. I at least look around before jumping on it!

Just a couple weeks ago I was driving home when I see a Ford F150 loaded down with brush and tree branches. I just wish I had a camera because the branches were hanging about 6 feet behind the truck but worse yet they were also hanging in front of the truck covering all but about a 1 foot square section of the windshield! Now, I'm not talking about a couple of branches! I mean this truck was loaded down heavy and the dump was about 5 miles away. As I got to my light to turn left I saw a police officer up ahead and I could see the guy in the truck was looking nervous but I made my left and don't know what happened..
Several times I have seen idiots in the right lane of the hwy suddenly realize they are passing their exit and swerve across 3 lanes of traffic to get to the off ramp. Don't people understand that you can just go to the next exit and turn around??

Several years ago, dead heading to LA for a load of propane at terminal to return to San Diego. On Golden State freeway at "mixmaster" interchange had a wreck on southbound (other) side. Lady decided to full stop in center lane to take a look. Got stopped finally about two feet off her rear bumper after MUCH smoke and screech (was empty). Took 15min or so after pull off to calm down after that. Would love to have a photo of what she could see out back window, smoke and very large piece of chrome!
Well I was driving to Florida, straight through and it was probably only like 11pm or so but I came up on a semi being followed by a car or two with their flashers on. It was like the semi driver was sleeping (or REALLY drunk) but was able to keep it within the road, granted 3 lanes. Anyway I join up behind them with the flashers on, and I drove past TWO cops honking the horn the whole while. So me and 3 other cars as well as a semi behind us with emergency flashers on, and honked the horn at him. The cop didn't even bother moving, apparently our horn wasn't loud enough to wake him up?!?
The guy exited that expressway onto another, who knows how far he made it from there.

I was coming up I95 between Richmond and Washington, in the early 70's driving a BMW (car) it was the middle of the night so there was almost no traffic. I was driving 80-90 mph in the right lane, There were signs for a rest stop ahead, someone had managed to get back on the freeway going the wrong direction
he was probably going about the same speed as I was or faster. He was in his right lane, the left lane for me. You think about driving on a 2 lane road with someone coming the other direction, no big deal, this was a BIG DEAL. That was back when I was young and invincible, and it scared me. The funny part was I looked in the rear view mirror and never saw him even hit his brakes.

Reminds me of that clip from Trains, Planes, and Automobiles. They were going the wrong way, somebody had it floored in reverse yelling at them you're going the wrong way! They thought that person was nuts until they caused an accident....
I once saw a guy (HS senior when I was in JH) drive his junker into a lake on a dare.
Drove it straight into a town lake from the parking lot.
Needless to say he was a idiot.
Went on to become a cop if my memory serves me correctly.
You know what they say, there's a fine line between law enforcement and the dark side.

It's one thing to be the idiot doing it but it is DEFINITELY another thing if you are a trapped passenger in your father-in-law's car thats doing it on a family dinner outing!
I've never been so scared to be in a car in my LIFE!K.

I was helping a friend work on his car one day when his little sister's boyfriend pulled up in an old cutlass. Just before stopping, he hit a pot hole and just about went through the roof. We could kind of see what was going on, but had to run over and take a look for ourselves.... yup. The goofball had jacked the car up, and stuck a couple 2x4's between the axle and body for a lift kit. We politely conveyed to him, if he didn't kill somebody and end up in jail, he'd at least have a couple holes in the floor. Sound like anybody you know?
