Not a C.O. here but have worked for and with the Georgia Department of Corrections for the last 15 years and with Kentucky Dept of Corrections for the last 3. Been in several other State's prisons but never a Texas prison.
Good luck.

I know a few people out here in California who work for the Department of Corrections (Chino and juvinelle) but they don't seem to last too long there and move on to diffrent jobs. Guess you have to like the job.
But good luck on your application.
Stay away Southern California, there has been rioting here lately.

After the regular Army I spent 4 years in the National Guard in MT. In 1992 there was a guard strike and walkout. The National Guard was called to the prison to guard the prisoners. The prison managment took all of the big guys, which included me, and sent us to the high side which includes maximum security. What an eye opener. I realized that it was one place I for sure was never going back to under any circumstances. I did it for about 10 days.

My sister is a prison guard. Ramsey 1 I think. She likes the job. She never liked to shoot growing up ,but she had to train with a pistol and a rifle and did quite well. You will love when you train with tear gas. You get to be on the wrong end to see how it works.
