Corporate America here I come

Persistence pays off. After being out of the Marine Corps for 4 months and been job hunting for nearly 6, I landed a very nice job today. For those of you that think experience is worth more than an education... Think again. I got the offer because I had my degree. All the other applicants had the same experience or more than I did, but the ending factor was my degree.

Now don’t get me wrong, a degree alone will not get you anything special. Experience without a doubt has its positive avenues when job hunting, but they were willing to take someone with less experience in the field, and had managerial experience and a degree, over those with extra experience and no degree.

Congrats!! and Thank You for fighting for our freedoms!!

What type of work is it your doing? To me that makes a big difference in weather or not experience or a degree comes first. IMO
I'm also in Houston what area are you from?
Good luck with your new career may this one be safer then your last.

I am down in South Houston, in Pearland to be exact.

I got hired as the Counter Manager for the willcall area of a national distributor of electrical and data equipment.

I will have a little bit of a drive to work each day as the job is up in the North West side of town off 290, but it's worth it.

As for the experiance. I have zero knowledge of the things they sell. They wanted me for my personel managing experiance and my degree.

Congrats, this is excellent news. I wish you many years of success.

Now that you have the job, let us know if whom you may go to for answers has any experience.

In my business experience is king. We leave the educated ones on the street holding the doors for us.

Good luck, I will toast one up in your honor tonight.
