Confessions of a Car Salesman

interesting read,
we KILLED people when i sold used cars for ~6 months, i had to quit, i felt so bad.

YMMV.

http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying...2/page001.html

Introduction

What really goes on in the back rooms of car dealerships across America?

What does the car salesman do when he leaves you sitting in a sales office and goes to talk with his boss?

What are the tricks salespeople use to increase their profit and how can consumers protect themselves from overpaying?

These were the questions we, the editors at Edmunds.com, wanted to answer for our readers. But how could they really know that our information was accurate and up-to-date? Finally, we came up with the idea of hiring an investigative reporter to work in the industry and experience, firsthand, the life of a car salesman.

We hired Chandler Phillips, a veteran journalist, to go undercover

Wow

Thanks for discovering and posting that. I feel like I armed to go to war with these guys now. In fact, I'm in the market for another dodge diesel now so I will apply as much knowledge as I can against them. Once again, loved the read. Thanks.

The internet is the best way to handle a purchase. You can get list and cost with all options and rebates, then email the fleet manager with your bid. I did this with both of my last Dodges and it was a piece of cake, I even traded in my 1999 Mustang GT sight unseen in 2002 for what I wanted for it. I told them you give me this, I'll give you this, we got a deal, I'll be in to pick up the truck after work, have it detailed and the paperwork written up.

Lot easier using CUDL or going in with a loan in hand, just work on price and forget the payment poop.
