You will be surprised who carries or atleast is licensed to carry.

The entire Engineering department at work is licensed.

I would like to say I am a member of the CCW club, but I just got my first step to a denial in the mail yesterday. It reads:

A review of your handgun permit application #------ by the Maryland State Police Licensing Division revealed that additional information is required as follows:

1) Evidence is needed to support apprehended fear(i.e copies of police reports for assaults, threats, harassments, stalking.

Goes on to say if I don't provide this documentation to them by the 12 of May my application will be cancelled. As if I originally said I had any of those things happen to me. The object (in my mind) is to be prepared a situation as listed above, not wait for it to happen, then decide to take steps to protect myself.??

That the exact wording. As if I would be a better candidate to protect myself if I had already been a helpless victim? Furthermore, why would they be more inclined to allow someone who has a history of being stalked, harassed, etc. to carry? Wouldn't that individual just shoot the next person who bothered them??
It is a disgrace to our fore fathers that I have to go through this silly process. (most likely to find out I have wasted my time a $127.00).
I keep thinking that 13 and 14 year old BOYS died in war to preserve some basic rights set forth by men in candle lit rooms. Remember, it was our FIREARMS that enabled us to be the Americans we are today. Now I sit back and watch the state of Maryland walk all over basic freedoms. Sad, huh?
Sorry to Hijack here, just caught my attention and need to vent.

Gotta love Maryland. Our 2 closest major cites, Baltimore and DC both have the strictest gun laws and some of the highest murder rates in the country. Basically if you aren't in some type of law enforcement/security position, it's not even worth trying for a CCW in this liberal-based state.

I was even told by the Trooper that interviewed me (yes, you have to go through a face to face interview). "Maryland dosen't wan't ANYONE to carry a gun, so your (my) excuse is a little thin". He was a nice guy, just being honest with me.
I am a Real Esate Appraiser, and every so often I get an order from Fannie Mae in TX. They have know way of knowing the status of the borrower, other than they are 90-120 days behind. This could range from they have been gone for months, or have no intentions of leaving until the Sheriff's deputy's show up. Which can (could) make me a sitting duck for the Herion addict who is camped out on the couch when I make my way into their front door clip board and measuring wheel in hand. You have to consider that most low lifes don't take lightly to my white self walking around their property taking pictures and making notes for a Bank that will eventually take thier house back. It can be hairy, I guess if I end up with a sucking chest wound dead on someones living room floor my wife can sue Bob Erlich and the MD State Police? Maybe I am taking it to another level here, but I can't see why I am not a good candidate without having a history of being a victim??

Well, the states were given certain powers, this is one of them.

TOTALLY CRAZY that you need to already have been attacked to qualify?????
DEFEATS THE PURPOSE, then I would have the odds in my favor, Huh?

try one of the more gun friendly states that offers non-resident licensure. I know Florida is one of the more widely accepted.

And Virginia is just across the border.

Time to move to a "friendlier" state.

PS Maryland doesn't honor ANY other state's CHP.

Check www.packing.org for more carry info for all 50 states.

Won't help me to carry (legally) in my home state though....
Gues I'll have to pack up the wife and kid and find a job south of here to be "allowed" to protect them?

I'm about 2 hours south of "Balmer" and about 5 miles west of DC.

I'm heading for western PA tomorrow morning.
My CHP ain't worth spit in Maryland or PA.

Yeah it really stinks having to justify what is or should be our right. I had to give a reason for my nonresident Oregon permit but they accepted it with out question. Washington does not ask for a reason.

Wow thanks for all the responses, people. Hoss, I'm checking out TexasChlForum.com as we speak. I had bought the Taurus because it was a semi-inexpensive medium-frame gun, and thought it would be a good idea to learn how to shoot with a larger gun then a smaller one.
