Claude, seems like a pretty straight forward swap.

 

Well Let Me Ask You This - Do You Think It Would Work With Out Un Hooking The Two Field Wires Going To The Pcm ?
Or Would That Cancel What The Regulator Is Supose To Do ?

 

We Hooked It Up With Out Removing Original Wires To Pcm & It Didn`t Work

 

Yeah I think without rerouting to the external it would just keep using the internal regulator

Our Alt`s Are Supose To Be Dumb - And Nead A Signal To Make Them Charge

THE DARN THING WOULD CHARGE WHEN IT HAD A MIND TO AND THEN QUIT
BEEN GOING ON FOR A YEAR - BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT
JUST CUPPLE WEEKS AGO I CHECKED IT & IT WAS PUTTING OUT ABOUT 15 V

SOME ONE TRIED TO TELL ME IT WAS A PROBLEM IN THE INSTREMENT PANNEL -STOPPING IT FROM CHARGING

 

Never did understand why these trucks have so many charging issues... My '90 goes through VR's like Scott does shampoo.... Thank God its external and easy to swap.

Claude, Ive never done one, but I *think* that to make it work you would have to completely remove original wiring and rewire as shown as in the diagram. It seems like if you have the original wiring in place it would want to continue to use the internal regulator.

I wonder if Don would know. Maybe he'll chime in.
