If you have ever seen a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer, loaded, and swaying down the road at excessive speed, with all the tires on one side of the trailer leaving the ground together, then swapping sides ( kind of a "jump to the left, and then a twist to the right" dance) you would also believe that you need to be picky about loading a 5th wheel trailer properly.
I have a tandem axle tag, with a wide axle spread, that will throw my truck all over the road if improperly loaded. Balanced properly, you can tow it right up to speeds that are in the sub-moronic range, with no problem at all.
I also have a tridem 5th wheel, load it properly, and life is good, load it improperly, and lets hope God is your co-pilot. It won't just waggle the truck around, it will try and turn it over, at any speed in excess of about 35 mph.
It really does come down to proper loading, proper driving technique, and keeping the speed reasonable.
With a 15k + load on any trailer, behind a 1 ton, there is no reason to travel 70mph. That is more than just an observation, that is a fact based on seeing a few too many accidents with heavy loads on light trucks. You can go fast, but can you stop? Just food for thought.
Once again, I have blathered on long enough. Safe loading, safe speeds, safe driving techniques, and Happy Hauling.

.Yea, I am about 20 miles south of Houlton, So I am more like 23-24 miles from the border if i want to cross legally
. My dad grades roads back near the border that if he steps of the side of the road towards Canada he is in Canada.Been up here since May 2005 and finally moved up in September, but have yet to be over in Canada..
