Chrysler Techs got a question

My mom called me up tonight about a small issue she's just recently started having with her 2006 300.

He issue is a very static/fuzzy radio signal that only happens when she has the rear defroster on. She said the car never did this until this winter (had it since fall of 05). Is this a common problem with the 300's? Is their something I can look at or does she have to take it into the dealer?

The radio in her car is the 6 disc cd changer AM/FM radio. It does not have Sat radio or Navigation.

not a tech, but it sounds like a ground problem.
check the antenna cable to see if the shielding insulation is chaffed and rubbing the body.

I haven't had that problem in my Charger yet, but my rear defroster dosen't work either. The raido antenna is built into the rear defroster. She is probally getting interference from the defroster when it is on. You might could put a noise filter on the antena cable comming from the rear window to cut down on the interference. Other that that I do not know.

I agree with the grounding problem for normal raido static, however, if the rear defroster is wired into the ant... I guess a filter would be an option.

I can't see how a rear defroster would be wired into the radio antenna. It might be an antenna wire stuck to the window like a defroster, but never all together. And as stated, probably a ground issue.

I'm guessing its like my audi where the antenna is in the rear glass with the defroster.

You need to find out what the resistace spec is for the rear defroster, then check and see if her defroster is within the specified resistance value. If it is to high that is probably the problem. Will likely require a new rear window to fix the problem. Used to see this when I worked for MB. It might be a similar design. If it's out of warranty it may not be worth fixing money wise.
