Chrysler to go BK?

What happens to the Dodge Cummins relationship if or when Chrysler goes BK. For that matter what do all of us do about replacement parts.

It is looking very doubtful if Chrysler will survive.

I believe if they go under they will be required to carry/make parts for the next 7 years.

If they go bk and disappear we would depend on Cummins and the aftermarket. But I would bet certain products like the ram would be absorbed by another company (Nissan) and be rebadged and sold.

It'll be no different from when AMC failed.

The way I see it, if you could no longer buy parts for the truck, they can buy it back from you. I don't even consider my truck still having a warranty, but if they would stop honouring it, they ain't going to see anymore truck payments from me! They won't go under though, the gov't will keep printing money.....By typical law the US gov't would have gone brankrupt 100 times over by now....

Just because they file chapter 11, doesn't mean they 'll got out of business, it might be the only way they survive....

Air Canada filed for bankruptcy 2 years ago and stiffed the airport I work for(and many other Canadian airports) for over $100,000. In the end the gov't bailed them out and paid their creditors pennies on the dollar.

They are still flying today like nothing happened.

Bankruptcy pretty much just means that you don't have to pay your debts back.

Maybe that might open the door for Cummins to forge a relationship with Ford. It's been mentioned many times on many forums, a Superduty/Cummins combo would be very tempting! I'm just guessing that Ford would drop their upcoming "Scorpion" diesel like a hot potato if the prospect of linking with Cummins surfaced. Not just from a performance perspective, but from a cost savings point of view as well.

Too bad about the bailout for the automakers not cutting a deal tonight. It would not suprise me one bit if GM filed Chapt 11 first thing tomorrow morning. As far as Ford and Chrysler - I believe I read somewhere or heard on one of the news stations that the Ford family was buying back their preferred and common stock as fast as they could over the past few weeks. Also, that there were some 'board' member shakeups taking place. Sounds like the Ford family is taking back control of the company as a whole. It could spell Ford buying out Chrysler in the overall. I could see some real happy truck owners in the SuperDuty/Cummins combo.

The company Chrysler already has your money so stopping payments will only do 2 things. Destroy your credit and get it repo'd.

I guess the goverment isn't printing any money tonight since they shot down the bailout. My theory is let them go BK, they can dump the excessive debt and the high labor costs and get more in line with the "other" non failing automakers and become profitable.

Or maybe GM and Chrysler fail get picked apart and all we'll have is a Ford Powerstroke to buy.

I still say the first to pull the trigger on BK, get their costs in line will ultimately be the winner.

Been through BK 4 times before we got rid of the scoundrels, now we make money, and there are no shortages of customers or vendors.

Bankruptcy (chapter 11) is not always a bad thing. Look at K mart. They filed and then a short time later bought Sears!! I am sure there is more to it than I know but in the end K mart is doing just fine.

No one will buy Chrysler out, Cereubus (SP) has been trying to unload it almost since day one. Maybe if they can somehow reorganize and become competitive again there would be some interest but not in the current state.

If they stop your warranty they have to buy it out, if they don't your finance contract is void and therefore you don't owe them a dime, it's not quite that simple but it's the way it would work. If they do go bankrupt I can tell you tons of people would get out of paying off their vehicles threw loopholes.

I would be happy if Chrysler went bankrupt and Ford got the Cummins.....
