Changing oil to often????
Changing oil to often????
You gotta watch this one; This is a trick question.

Is there any bad effects from changing your oil to often?

Personally I don't think so. But I thought I would through this question out just to see the other views.

I ask this because to some degree I have been influenced by the thought that "reclaimed oil" is better than new oil. And if that is true, then wouldn't old oil be better? What do they do to reclaimed oil to make it better than new oil ? Or is that just a myth?

Robert
Re:Changing oil to often????
Rerefined oil carries a stigma with it, probably from years ago when it was an inferior product when compared to new base oil. Canada is a large producer of rerefined lubricating oils which meet API certification. If I could find a source around me that met API CI-4, and was cheaper that fresh base oil, I wouldn't hestitate using it in my engine.

Ten years from now, you're not going to have any choice. The U.S. industry's already gearing up to go with a ratio of re-refined to "new" in both synthetic and organic bases. Certain other nations are already there.

GP
