CCW and/or CCP questions.....
In light of another post, I have a couple of questions for those who have em....
1. What's the point?
2. Have you been confronted about carrying? If so, by who?
3. Have you used it for good/bad in public? How'd that turn out?
4. Down sides to ccp ccw permits?
5. What do you carry?
I am the kind of guy who would certainly never stand around to watch while someone else was hurt, so naturally I've been thinking about getting one. I think that they are a good idea, just wanted to know who has them and what they do/what you do with them.
Thanks in advance!

You carry a spare tire and a jack right?
I have mentioned it to cops. they are the only ones that need to know.
I haven't had to use mine before. Hope I never do.
down side? the pre-booking is the only one I can think of.
9mm Automatic.

To never need it, but if you do, you have it.
Girlfriend once-upon-a-time was taken-aback by it when she felt it, but other than that, no.
Only other time anyone knew was the few times I've been pulled over, and I informed the nice officer.
Never have, never plan on it, but have it just in case the need arises.
Knowing you might have to take a life, and hoping you never do.
.357 in the truck, .380 PPK/s on person, most of the time.

If it is concealed properly, no reason to ever be confronted about it. The whole idea is to NOT let anyone know you are carrying it. Unless you live in a State that requires you to notify Law enforcement officers.
Inadequate training and not understanding the heavy responsibility that comes with it.
I carry many different weapons, my Favs are a Colt Stainless Gold Cup National Match 1911 45 and a Colt Stainless Magnum Carry Detective Special 357 mag.
The type of weapon is not as important as knowing how to use it safely and when. Practice...Practice...Practice and study the law so you KNOW what you can and can't do.
Remember, you can't call a bullet back once it is fired, nor can you brandish the weapon without sufficient cause. Even if you are packing it is still wiser to avoid a confrontation at all cost. The best thing that could happen would be for the weapon to NEVER be drawn in anger PERIOD!

1) I carry for MY personal protection... Always remember that if someone is robbing a place run the other way.. MOST OF THE TIME THE BAD GUYS ARE NOT ALONE.. and the person standing behind you in line may be the bad guys partner.. and also have a gun.. Another important thing is the police don't know you are a good guy.. all they know is that YOU HAVE A GUN!!!
2) Yes.. I was in a store and reached up to the top shelf.. my shirt and jacket came up and someone saw it.. she yelled "HE HAS A GUN" to my surprise she was looking at me.. I quickly showed he my ID apologize and she calmed down....
3) one night in Downtown LA sitting at a red light.. a poorly dressed person (looked homeless) was standing across the street and yelled at me for some spare change.. he had a back pack... I told him I didn't have any.. he started to walk towards my truck yelling at me I told you to give me some money.. at the same time he started to reach into his back pack.. I pointed my Beretta at him and turned on the laser... he turned and ran.. I then called the local police and reported my actions... Nothing ever came of it.
4) There is a large downside to carrying a weapon.. you are a citizen and have no civil protection.. If you do use it to defend your life there may be no criminal charges BUT... I guarantee that the family of whoever you shot will be filing a lawsuit against you for wrongful death. I myself would rather be in court than carried by 6.. but if you use it everything you have worked for your entire life and in the coming year WILL be in jeopardy!!
5) For concealed carry I have
(A) Smith and Wesson Chiefs special 9mm
(B) H&K P7M13 9mm
(C) Smith and Wesson 2" 38 revolver
(D) Beretta 92FS 9mm (really to big for concealed carry).

I know in TN their CCP is both concealed and non concealed. I asked a buddy one day why he wore his CCW in an unconcealed fashion. Turns out the state thinks like this. If you can pass the class and prove you are able minded enough to carry a weapon, then you know when to use it and when not to. If a bad guy walks in to an establishment and sees another person sitting there with a weapon, the chances are that he will think twice about doing something stupid. I can see that theory and I bet it works, but I prefer concealed.
The biggest thing with CCP and CCW's is to AVOID ANY SITUATION where the possability might arise where you would need one.

Ask yourself if you have ever had any discipline in your living experience?
army, college football team, firefighters, etc.
Do you like to have "cool stuff"? chrome, loud stero system, plasma tv thingy
Do you read every page of the instruction manuals that come with lawn mowers, propane grills, etc.?
Have you ever been a victim?
Like the bumper stickers says: "if you have to ask , you wouldn't understand" this isn't an impulse thing to do, as above from THE best advisors: instruction, hands on training, the perfect reasons to
not become a victim. You never JUST carry a gun, you have the confidence
not cockiness of making the right decision.
Please talk with your local sheriff's office, likely a lieutenant that had to tell the family of an innocent by-stander, their loved one was dead.
People have THE BEST weapons of all- cell phones. call the police as you are walking away. Want protection for your home? get a dog who will bark.
if you are just curious, ranges usually have an introductory class for new gun owners- without having to own a gun. It is a serious tool. "I didn't know, and i'm sorry" mean nothing in Court.
Paperwork? figure on the same as an adoption but a little less money, heheheh. Go down to city hall, sheriff's office, etc. and get the forms first.
You will feel comfortable about going throught he process or know it is not for you. Best of luck, talk with real people.

In Virginia, as in most states, the CHP does not give me the power to use my weapon to protect others.
I am NOT a Law Enforcement Officer.
My CHP gives me the tools that I may need to protect my life and my family's.
I may never NEED it......In fact I hope I never NEED it.
But then I may never need Fire Insurance or Flood Insurance, or an air bag in my truck either.
But after you do, too late to start shopping for it.
Concealed means concealed.
If you can tell I'm carrying, I'm not doing it correctly.
Colt Commander.
I am my own Homeland Security.

Find and take a concealed carry course or two and an advanced course if you can get to one. If done properly, they are a real eye opener.
I carry a 1911 in one form or fashion. Took my truck to the state police barracks in Suffolk to get them to look at the stacks a while back. Had the iron hanging on my side when I got out. He asked was I with the police to which I replied no. He asked why was I packing heat to which I replied Cause I can. He said cool and we went on with out business.

I work at a Federal Pen and Pres Bush passed a law in 2004 ( LEOSA) that allows ANY law enforcement officer to carry in any state at any time. ( gotta love ol' W)
I took advantage of this law real quick. I no longer need the permit.
I hardly ever carry while putting around the home town but when I take the family on a trip you can bet I will be carrying.
I just DO NOT like those interstate rest stops at 3:00am.

This is the point... when your life is on the line...

And I agree with the statement that if you dont completley understand the "why" wothout explanation, you probably shouldnt carry...
