Hotdram, Is that a Uniden scanner?
I might look into one of them then, and get one of the Cobra Classic CBs. Since on the CB won't matter to much since it is an auto with a bench seat so their is plenty of room to mount a CB and scanner.

Yep, it is a BCT-8. I really like it. You should be able to find it online for about $150-$160. Trunk tracking, 250 channels. Dedicated bands for things like NOAA, air, marine, and other bands.
I ended up buying the programming software, so you can program it from a PC over a serial cable. I highly recommend that method. I knew nothing about scanners or "trunked tracking" when I bought it, but I found a lot of info on the web.

Jeff,
It is a Kenwood, about 2 years old, model KDCX-879. I like it because the face plate flips up an nothing but black shows when the key is turned off. You can also pull the face plate out and take it with you if you want.

Also, a note about the scanner, it is not capable of tracking digital systems (the APCO-25 standard). Those scanners (although cool, and Uniden has one that integrates with GPS) are big bucks and to a novice like myself, I couldn't see spending the coin. I am happy with the one I have.

With the scanners from what i just read on it seems like it will fit my needs well. I have seen that they(CB & Scanner) coome with a cig. plug for power, can they be hard wired in with a Aux. fuse box?
I just got done looking on Ebay, I searched the scanner and found some for between
$148-$168 with free shipping, and also searched the Cobra Willy91 posted and can get them from anywhere from $50-$170. So when i get the truck i will prolly buy the stuff off Ebay.

Here is another good resource for figuring out how to program a trunked tracking scanner. From this page pick the state you are interested in and then find the city on the page that you are sent to.

bearcat1.com/fleet

That is how I figured out how to program my scanner (that and reading the manual to figure out what "trunked" meant )

Jeff,
You are correct, you can power the scanner from a cig. lighter or hardwire it to +12V. I take mine into the house once in a while to listen to it or to program it (it came with a 110V household power cord and an antenna to use indoors).

Rob,
If I hard wire to a 12v source i would make it still removable to use the indoor plug in,I would just rather not pull the power from the cig. plug and just have an Aux. fuse box for everything.

I "think" so. I power mine from the cig. lighter. But if I remember correctly, the wires that came with it to hard wire to +12V in truck have a connector that plugs into the back of the scanner, so you can still easily remove it.

I was going to get dual firesticks for my truck for the cool factor. The guy from the shop I got my cb (a Gulf War Communications Vet) talked me out of it. First of duals need to be located at least 6 feet apart. He had me get a cheap metal whip with a small coil, could have got a Wilson for a lot more money and it would have better range. I was only needing 5-7 miles range and I went with what he recomended. I have alot of respect for the guy as he could have sold me about anything as I didn't know any better. There was a cost difference of at least a couple of hundred dollars he could of put in his pocket. BTW I bought a Cobra 75 WX ST because I could mount the little box on the rail from the drivers seat to the center seat console.

With the dual whips i should not have a problem ssince one is gonna be for the scanner and one for the CB. So they won't be used for the same thing,I mainly want the CB since I live about 20 miles south of of the last truck stop before Canada and where you get off to go farther north in Maine. Also so when i travel down to Pa it would be nice to have the CB since i will be among alot of truckers rather have them know i am on their side and not against then in any way.

You can get them here:

Just my opion that fiberglass whips are not very good. I use a drill mounted Wilson 1000 that is in the dead center in my roof (mount by removing dome light).
