CB base station question

I was wondering what a good model is and what kinda of range you can get with a base station.

well i have a decent base station, but really as long as the radio is decent and has everything on it you want ( echo,SSB,talkback, ect. ect) Just get ya a big ole amp, like 500 watt and you'll be able to talk a LONG WAY. especially if the skip is a rollin , might be able to get ya here in Indiana

Buy a 12V power supply and you can run any mobile unit out there. This is the power suppy I run: http://www.rrcom.com/pictures/Pyramidps/ps26k.html

The power supply allows you to switch radios back and forth between the house and the truck. The local range will all depend on the height of the antenna and the wattage that you are running. If the skip is running, you will be almost worldwide on SSB for short periods of time. I have contacted operators on 37 or 38 LSB all over North America, without an amp, when the conditions are right.
