lmao. Thanks for Walmart indeed..

It's actually not nearly so much of an affect of the Canadian dollar rising but of the American dollar dropping in value.

We'll see what this March 7'th thing brings about and if we actaually see cattle headed south.
It is far too little, far too late if you ask me.

I think I'll stop off at "Simpsons" first Dr.........

I just read an article that American producer groups are in the process of sueing the USDA for allowing the border to reopen...

What a complete farce..............

Here's some salt for the wound!

U.S. ranchers group suing to stop Canadian beef imports
WASHINGTON (CP) - An American ranchers group launched a lawsuit Monday against the U.S. Agriculture Department in a bid to prevent imports of Canadian cattle and a broader range of beef products.
R-CALF United Stockgrowers of America, based in Billings, Mont., says the department's recent decision to drop the cattle ban and allow beef products from older cows was arbitrary, capricious, poorly researched and illegal.

In its 35-page lawsuit, the organization contends that Canadian imports pose health risks for American consumers, could infect U.S. cattle with mad cow disease and will cost U.S. producers up to $3 billion US.

The court action from R-CALF is no surprise. The protectionist group has always said it would fight in court any attempt to ease the 19-month cattle ban imposed after the first case of mad cow was discovered in an Alberta animal in May 2003.

...

Pardon me while I puke

Very strange when as many cases of BSE have been found on that side of the border. Blows my mind.

Free trade would be nice if it were actually FREE. But it isn't. There are so many regulations, restrictions and taxes that there is no such thing as free trade and probably never will be. But then since the government decided to convert the Bill of Rights to so much toilet paper there is no such thing as freedom either.

It's laughable that we invaded IRAQ and killed 100,000 of them over 1000 of our sons and daughters and maimed and injured countless others, all in order to bring them freedom and democracy. BULL CRAP!

We cannot force them to be free. The best we could do would be let them alone and hope they make the right decisions. After all, it was the CIA who hired Saddam and installed him as dictator.

What do a rattlesnale and Muslims have in common? You don't mess with either one of them.

Sorry to hijack your thread.

If that is in fact true, that will just about put an end to the Canadian Cattle industry....most ranchers/farmers cant afford to be out of business for much longer.

Even still.

It's a numbers game............... 3 in the history of the country in a cattle population of what? 13 million? 14 million??

I haven't heard about this new beast yet. Bizzare how they are all from AB.

Personally I think they may have been on the right track when it was sugested to qurantine Alberta if it would allow the export of cattle from other provinces.....

I realise we totally need a united front but because of supply and demand forces it would be far better for the industry as a whole.

Before May '03 a bull customer of ours who has a packing plant told me of friends of his in Texas who had BSE issues in their Ranch and feedlot..... Funny how you never heard of that on the news. Also someone reportedly died of Crutchfield Jackobs disease in Iowa around the same time.
Sometimes maybe Ralph Klien is right. with the S.S.S.U approach.

Sure hope oil stays up, cause Alberta isn't gonna have much of a cattle industry.
