Norway: Researchers at the technical university in Trondheim have discovered that the moose, the country's national symbol, is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions. Annually, one moose produces greenhouse gas equal to 13,000 km of car travel.

Lower snowfalls in Norway have altered the food available to the animals and as a result they produce more wind and the population is growing. Requests have been made for an increase in hunting quotas to keep emissions under control.

"To put it into perspective, the return flight from Oslo to Santiago in Chile leaves a carbon footprint of 880 kilos. Shoot a moose and you have saved the equivalent of two long-haul flights," said biologist Reidar Andersen.

As for the CA DMV??? Having the public report smoking vehicles is NOTHING.... CA has put in sensors and cameras along its highways that detect gross polluting vehicles and RECORD their License Plate AND driver Identity (pics). It was an experiment that has been broadened now to put more cameras up and also offer incentives to fix or replace the vehicle. As for the moment, it does not mail tickets.... but Im sure that will change in the future.

Texas has the same thing. Been around awhile and I can honestly say that I have used it on a couple occasions back when my topless jeep was my daily driver. None of my reports were for diesels, just cars that have been beat to hell and smoke alot.

It doesnt really do anything. They just send a letter out to the owner. They dont actually do any research or enforce it.

 

Too bad the BIG BROTHER stuff is focusing on such stupidity - OH, and while on the STUPIDITY, maybe it would be a significant improvement if we had websites to report STUPID people and their BAD driving. Imagine the postal bills for the states, rival national debt!!!!

Here, they let the Prius, even with only one person in it, use the carpool lane HOV lane, and provide a little sticker on the bumper so the cops won't ticket them...Crap, if they polute less, make them stay in the congested traffic,release less hydrocarbons and nox into the air and let the CTD's and other SUV's use the carpool lane so we can get to where we're going and stop the gross pollution

Smoke out the Prius and bikes....the bike riders shut down SF once a month. They carry their bike on racks, mounted on 60's vw's and volvos that pollute and ride around town, gridlocking traffic, and assulting women and children for the "enviroment" and "the children".

My friend got a smoke letter on a car that had not left his property or even been run in over five years. It seems the DMV sends the letters out randomly.
