C-5 Crash in Dover

Just saw this on the News, what an awesome plane to be on the ground like that.
Heres the story so far. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12130852/
They flew one of these low over the Busch series race I went to last year. Talk about impressive, they tipped the wings directly over about 90,000 people at the end of the National anthem, it rocked the whole stadium, sent shivers down my spine.

Anyway, she's a big one to hit the ground like that. When your in the lower Delaware area, these things look like thier flying about 5 miles per hour overhead they're so huge.

Yeah, looks like they all still kickin, thats good.

They are larger than life, I'm not sure, but I think they have to prop the wings up on these ones when they aren't using them or they'll sag.
The span is wicked and the payload is unreal, imagine driving tanks into something, then flying with it???!!!

It's funny comparing the size of the fire truck to the jet turbine that it's sitting beside. And those people standing out there look like little ants compared to that sucker. I'd love to see one of those in person..........better yet maybe fly one YEAH RIGHT

News to me... You may be thinking about the U2 which has extremely flexible wings.

could be, I had heard something recently about wide spans and "heavy" wings, that's why I said "I'm not sure..."

You're thinking of the B-52 when it's full of fuel taking off.

I flew in one of those to Iraq. We had to wait five days for it to get off the ground due to repairs. Since we were stateside, I didn't mind the wait. Funny, they are never late to get out of Iraq. They seem to wait until Germany to have problems.

The reason for that is that the pilots and crew all like the beer here !! We have a heck of a time getting the things to stay put together long enough to get folks to and from the States. They all seem to start working on Fridays so that we end up working on Saturday .... you can count on it like clockwork .

Glad to hear everyone was safe ... that's a lot of metal in motion !!

Friend of mine, just got of high school last year, works on them down in dover. They are huge planes. Kinda amazing how something that large can stay in the air.

I used to live near the end of the flight line at McClelland AF Base and these things would go over all the time. I had the house for sale and I was showing it to a prospective buyer. I was walking ahead of him entering the side gate to show him the pool in the back, when one of these went over looked low enough to almost touch it.

I turned back to look at him as I held the gate open for him, but he was no where to be seen. I went back around the garage and saw him running for his car I guess he was no fan of large aircraft
