Bursitus ???

Anyone here ever have bursitus? This is the third time I have had it in the past 3 months in my left elbow. Had the doc tell me today if it happens a 4th time the would send me up for surgery to have it removed.

If you have had it, what was your treatments for it?

What are they gonna remove?? I have had bursitis in my shoulder since I was a teen. Used to get cortisone shots every few years. I have been having trouble with my elbows for a few years now. And knees. And knuckles.
Come to think of it, almost all joints!! bursitis, arthritis, nembutitus, Always some kind of itus! Getting old sucks!

I would have to ask the same thing. I have it in my knees, and I usually take 2 of the Tylenol 650mg caplets for it. If it is really bad, I have an anti-inflammatory and the good stuff for the pain. Fortunately, I don't have to use the heavy artilleries but once or twice a year.

Bursitis is the inflamation of the bursa sac in the joint, it holds the "joint juices." (Yea I have a few joint problems). When I had surgery on my shoulder, they removed the bones spurs and the scar tissue that had grown. I would guess, they are going to remove the inflamed bursa, (I'm no doctor, so whaddo I know). I know after my surgery, physical therapy was the best. Even now, when my shoulder flares up, I go in for a few sessions, and it gets better.

I take one ibuprofen (sp?) every morning before I go to work and about 3 to 6 Shiner Boks every evening after I get home! I was taking glucosomine (again sp?) but took them all and never bought any more.

Correct, they will remove the bursa sack if it happens again.

Its strange that this problem has happened. I read it can be caused by an infection or traumatic injury to the joint. Only problem is that I haven't had any bad injury to it, and when they pulled fluid the 2nd time I had it, nothing awry came out of the lab results.

Greasemonki, did you have bursitus or did you have other joint problems?

Have you had x-ray (plain vanilla), MRI? Do you get swelling - fluid collection? How old are you? Ever injure your elbow? Use a BFH 3-4 times a week? Is it "tennis elbow"? BTW, 90% of tennis elbow is not caused by playing tennis. If your doc is an orthopedic specialist, I'd go with his program.

Cheers, Tom

I am 23. No Xrays or MRIs. I have never severly injured my elbow elbow ever, heck I've never even had a broken bone. The doc has never even mentioned tennis elbow. I don't use big hammers that often either.

Yes, i do get fluid collection in the elbow. My regular doc (Navy doc) is just a regular doctor, she said next time it happens she would send me up to the orthopedic guys and have me looked at.

Sounds like it may be from over-use. Any activities that would "stress" that area??? I'm not being funny either everyone!!!! Is it "tennis elbow"?? If it was your right elbow, I'd say it was from too much gear jammin'!!!! I use naproxin/Aleve for my aches and pains as it seems to work better than the others I have tried!!

Navy Doc's rule. Sounds like a good plan; let the ortho gents have a look. I'd trust them with my elbow but then I'm prejudiced - "Anybody can land on 2 miles of concrete." Uncle Don flew Douglas Dauntless off carriers in Pacific WWII.

Hey, at 23 there are many ways a guy could overuse his right arm, especially if stationed in Guam.

Tried using glucosomine/chondroitin tablets? I fell off a roof a year ago last november and seperated my left shoulder. It healed up pretty quick but it still took about 6 months before it felt "normal" again. I started taking the G/C pills and all the little pains and quirks seem to go away. A lot of arthritis sufferers use it to ease their sore joints.I still continue to take 2 pills a day just because, not getting any younger.
