building a 20x25 shop - recommendations?

got .5 acre lot, so can put up a shop.

want to be cheep, but more so want it to last, look good, and be functional.

the steel frame shops are ~4k for material, and ~5k installed.
that's without doors or anything, just the beams and siding, and ends, and a big hole.
doors are ~480 each

i kinda need to move on it quick too, not take the whole summer trying to stick build it myself.
too many toys in garage.

a lift is only ~1500 bucks, and a man might use that some, but i doubt it.
years ago, i would have, but i prefer not to work on old junk cars now.
like pizza, done had that flavor in my mouth too many times

Look up BaxSteel. They're in Baxley, GA. Did our 20K building here at work, and did a really good job.

Yep go bigger. My first shop I built was 24'x32' 10' high walls & not big enough. So I built a 40'x32' 12' high walls pole building. I have about the same amount of $$$ in each. They both have metal roofs & siding. The smaller one is 2x4 framed & sheetrocked inside. It took me 1 month with little help to build the stick building. It took 2weeks to build the pole building hireing a crane to set the poles & roof trusses.

there's NO websites out there with a price on the, you have to file your taxes on their website, then they will send you a quote.
did find this one matrix, but does not cover shipping.

not really sure how big i can go, only have a .5 acre lot, the back yard has prolly 1/4 acre to work with, but it's a nice corner to stuff it into.

Building Size
24'x30'x10'

$ 8,189.00

Price per square foot
10.34

Sounds small to me too!

Depending on what you're looking for, you might check out something like this:

It's still too small but probably all I can afford right now. They also have other sizes available.

they only do BIG stuff, like self storage & churches & malls.
notice how the header to the website changes as you go from page to page, it's fun to navigate.

Q. Is there a General Steel Metal Buildings location near me?

We ship buildings from 7 locations, including: Adel, GA.; Taylorville, IL.; Lockeford, CA.; Monticello, IA.; Elizabethton, TN.; Montgomery, AL.; Hamilton, Ontario

You might want to look into a pole building. Had mine done a couple of years ago and it was 3600 with labor included for a 24X36 with 12' walls. Thats no floor or anything , just building and doors. Make sure you get the insulation in the ceiling so it does not sweat. The metal roofing will condensate when there is a temprature differential. One thing though, make sure you put plenty of power out there at least 200amps, I only have 100 and some times use every bit of it and put water and phone in the ditch while your at it. Just a few suggestions.

Don't forget the cable line!!!

This time I have heavy wires to the house to supply it with backup power from the generator in the garage, telephone, cable, water, tied in the sewer, and 200 amps of seperate service!!

Bigger! 14' side walls so you can get your 4x4 ctd with camper with roof air conditioner in the door. Did I say bigger, mines 40'x50' and I wish I made it 60'
long. CTD quad cab long box 21' from bumper to end of reciever hitch, 18' boat with i/o up 24', 24'+21'=45', not too much room to move around. Heck my attatched 2 car garage is 24'x24' on my house.
Don't forget phone line, cable line, water for sink, undergound tubing/raceways for
dustcollection system and future electrical upgrades, a pit with ramps to work under the ctd...etc..etc...

Bigger shop is always better.

Mine came with the house and is 24 deep by 48 wide but only 8' walls - fine for the Volkswagon Beetles the original builder specialized in but mighty tight fit for the CTD, Powerwagon, Scouts and 53 IHC. Build deeper, not necessarily wider.

My brother's shop down the street we built 30X30 with 12" walls (for a stacker on one side) and it has room to work in front of cars with a line of benches against the wall. Also wide enough to get both doors open on a car in either side.

Hard to expand once the walls go up - build big and you will not regret it (except when it comes time to pay for it).
