a $100 flashlight that only lasts for an hour on a charge, and the bulb only last for 30 hours is a little crazy to me.

With what I do, it's all about getting as much light out there as you can. Sometimes when you're tracking, it's best to have low light and that is when a single red led works best but once you've found the victim or you need to get a quick read on your dog, it's perfect. I couldn't ask for anything better. I've used it for 8-12 hours at a time without charging. Non-continuous of course. Never ran into a situation where I lost the charge during a search or incident.

Yeah Streamlight isn't a Harry Homeowner necessity.

But it is the standard for LE. and $100 bucks is nothing to us for the security of knowing it will work for you time and time again.

My SL20 is 18 years old folks.
I've only had 4 battery sticks, many many lamps and 3 switch replacements.
I do every maintenance and repair myself just because when you've relied on this for your life you get to know every piece if gear you have.

Batteries are about $25 bucks, Lamps run $12 and Switches $20 so I do have some money in it. But it's the same thing as issuing a Sig Sauer over a Tokarev. You don't want to settle for cheap.

for small production lights Surefire M6 is considered the best.

here's a pic showing M6 next to a 2D maglite which houses an Xbin 5watt luxeon driven at 1.5amps. it's the world's brightest single LED light.

those three lights are worth aprox. $1,500

Te blue mag you can get at walmart for 19 bucks

true.. 2D maglite host is $16 local. but it's what inside that's different. MRX-X3T is world's most powerful single LED light. Puts out aprox. same lumens as Surefire M6 lola.

it's kinda of like folks here on DTR spending 6K+ for CTD mods.

There's aprox 12 MRX's ever made. there's a worldwide brethern global map for kicks

read about it here http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/show...6&page=1&pp=20

I carry a Surfire Z2 combat light EVERYDAY with the 120 lumen torch in it--------it will flat knock you over if you take it in the eyes. I use this light more for work than tactical and it does ge ta little expensive; i've had to replace the torch twice in two years at 22 dollars a pop- and batteries cost about 5 dollars every couple monthes, but it sure lights things up----couple weeks ago a friend of mine found a twelve pack of batteries at a liquidation store for 3.50$ so i,m good for a few months now-Matt

hmmmmmmm, somehow I don't think that light would be too practicle working as a police officer or in Search and Rescue. 10 mil huh? I wonder how long that thing would last.

I really like Streamlight. Very nice products and the price is certainly manageable.

I guess if that just isnt quite good enough, you could start to tote around one of these....

Yeah, those Surefire lights are nice. I've thought about getting one or two for the house. My last unit bought a set for our boarding teams (U.S. Coast Guard).

I don't know this all seems like a lot of money for a simple flashlight......but I guess being as how I have such a "Shining" personality, I just don't need that much illumination
