Bricks

Anyone ever haul bricks before? I have several pallets of bricks that need to be moved 5 hours from home. I'm wondering if it's worth it to make a 10 hour drive for these things or just get a couple of pallets locally?

How much does a pallett of bricks weigh? I know it's going to depend on the exact brick, but I'm just looking for some balparks figures. i don't want to go that far and find out I can only load one pallett at a time.

The average brick will weigh about 4 lbs each. With the price of diesel, I would just buy some brick locally.

I saw a guy here locally with one cube of brick in the bed of his little Toyota pickup. The bumper was scraping the ground on every bump he hit. It was pretty crazy! Those brick weigh quite a bit and there are about 500 in a cube... You might get 2 cubes in your truck but you will really be pushing it......

I'd say you're looking at a ton per pallet.

A 4'x4' pallet loaded 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall with solids will get to be around 3000 pounds. A cube, 500 standard bricks is around 2600-2800 pounds. Regular bricks like you put on a house have quite a range in price depending on the color and manufacturer. Ten hours is a good tank of fuel, plus loading and unloading. If you have the time and nothing breaks, probably a good deal............if you need really the bricks.

You say "several pallets".. How many?? I haul my own brick and can haul up to 12 pallets on the trailer.. brickyard is 200 miles away. I only make about 9 mpg though. To buy 10-12 pallets is going to be in that 2-3k dollar range. So if you need alot of brick you should just haul them yourself.

Guess I should have mentioned that I was planning on using a 5 X 12 tandem axle trailer. I'm calling off this mission. It'll take at least two trips to get them and with all things considered, especially the need to unload them by hand, I'n watching a all day Beach Patrol marathon.
