When we set the upper limit of PC-DOS at 640K, we thought nobody would ever need that much memory. — William Gates.....1985
If we ran tight efficient compiled machine code like we did back then, you could run the world with the average desktop computer.
We used to imagine that a big world control computer system was being built in Belgium. A large hard disk was 700 mb with a 3/4 hp 3 phase spindle motor. (IBM 3370) Just based on the time it takes electricity to get through wires to various components, and clock speed, an average modern desktop is more powerful than the Belgium system could possibly attain, no matter what.
..........But Saint Bill Gates has created an operating system and sold it to the world that is so inefficient that the world is safe.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!
Oh boy, fresh blueberry muffins and fresh coffee!!! Sneaking two muffins before the hungry mob gets here. Thanks.
Last week was a crazy week for computers. Three months ago my old HP laptop suddenly refused to connect to the internet. This computer has been dragged halfway around the world and back. The screen is showing black spots and streaks and it has also started to give other problems, so once this new problem arrived, decided to junk it and get a new one. The new computer has 12 Gb DDR3 memory and 2Tb RAM. The new computer has not been right from day one and has been back under warranty 5 times already. On Friday it would not start, so took it back again. That left me computerless, ( 4 bad computers in the room!) so decided to resurrect one of two older desktops. The first one (W7) had old problems so tried the second with W XP. That had not been started for ages and now it refused to even try to start. It just beeped at me. Took both desktops to a retired ex HP employee who lives on the next street and he made one good desktop out of two and loaded W 8.1. That is what I am working on now. Will hear later today about my laptop. Hate computers!

I guess I win the "bad Grandpa" award today. I was supposed to drive to Bowling Green tonight for a football game. 80 miles one way, usually no big deal. Today, woke at 0100 and at work by 0400. Got home about 1630 and said "nope". I hope he wins!
Shutting this thing off and calling it a night/day very soon.

Hello all. Rebuilt the front end in our Mazda last week. Struts, outer tie rod ends, lower control arms w/ball joints, left CV axle, right upper motor mount. Basically catching up on maintenance. For fun I'll get to do it all again on my truck as well. Just shy of 190 on the ticker, upper and lower ball joints are beyond shot, tie rod ends too. Replaced the LF wheel bearing for the second time 2 months ago. New batteries sitting in the garage for when I get started. More fun than I can stand.

SOOOO - - - on what are you glugging and gagging? I didn't make anything. You didn't make anything. You are obviously indulging in the pot from yesterday in which the dragon may have taken a leak. How does that make you feel? ..........................................
Tomorrow morning come and put a nice fresh pot on - - - - so can all gag......................................you are a mess - - a neat mess, but a mess. I like ya. YEH.
OK, fresh coffee and ph00 made and on the counter. No goodies - - been too busy to get something and the blonde is snowed. Someone bring something to snack on.
Off and running - - nuther busy day.

Good morning from ....... well,.... you know where! Hot day yesterday with only a few clouds.
Bob, good for you, jumping on Scotty like that. Someone needs to edumkate that boy. Let's see if he larned summit.
Heidi, hope your poor finger is getting better. Next time to aid the healing process, immediately after the damage, pour some lacquer thinners or MEK on to the wound to kill any bugs.
Off to improve the world. Oh wait, maybe the 'world' part can wait until tomorrow.

Hot coffee and some "tasties" on the counter. Help yourselves!
Doing the "run all over town" thing today with the Bride. On a "hard standby" for working this weekend. Got some stuff going on and too many of the normal shift tied up in Leadership School. I hope us "back office" types remember all the stuff we make the younger guys do! That would be embarrassing!

I made pumpkin spice latte phoo and bold roast french press java.
You two old pharts are just not looking.
Increase the prune juice, your backing up too much. your vision is impaired more then usual.
And I'm not saying you're 'full of joy'.
Mr. Sherod, thanks for adding that herbal laxative to the senior treats.
They'll appreciate it after the purge.
Two ply multi rolls suggested.

I AIN'T TUTCHIN ITT - - - NOPE. (hee hee)
Gorgeous morning out -- just out across the street (again) to get her computer back up and running. Amazing how quickly she can mess it up. But, the walk over and back is wonderful. It is really nice out - - cool, bright sun with blue Florida sky, gentle breeze, the Sand Hill Cranes out squawking, raccoon that had not made it home yet still snooping behind the hedge - - huge bright moon last night at 1am - - lit up the whole yard. Love the fall time here.
Back to work.

Good morning from a very wet Paradise. Woke up to grey skies and a gentle drizzle. Very unusual for this part of the world. Nice change from the boring blue skies.
Fresh coffee and ph00 awaits the early morning risers. No grub yet. Suggest that nobody touches anything that is left over from yesterday as some of it may be deliberately contaminated by one or two evil DTR members.

Maybe maladjusted, misinformed, or even as in the words of Chris Kyle, straight up crazy, but not evil.
The recommendation stands.

Cleaned up the counter. Nobody ate any of the treats? Strange!
Last night decided to bring life back into an old Poulan saw. Found a bad wire, fixed that. Couple squirts from a bottle into the carb and it started right up....for a moment.... Today, tore it all the way down and found the fuel line rotted into tiny pieces. On a good note, the clunk filter looked great, just rolling around in the tank. Had everything already in the shop, so now it's purring. While I was at it, got rid of those pesky carb protector caps.
A buddy and I are making our version of an Alaska mill and plan on using this saw. There is a post in the "Other" forum, looking for engineering ideas and improvements.
