Morning.

Summer is over. Today is the last day of hot and humid. Starting tomorrow it begins to get cooler and that's always the beginning of fall.

Today is Sunday, August 7th.

On this day in 1789 - The U.S. War Department was established by the U.S. Congress.

1782 - George Washington created the Order of the Purple Heart.

1928 - The U.S. Treasure Department issued a new bill that was one third smaller than the previous U.S. bills.

1942 - U.S. forces landed at Guadalcanal, marking the start of the first major allied offensive in the Pacific during World War II.

1947 - The balsa wood raft Kon-Tiki, which had carried a six-man crew 4,300 miles across the Pacific Ocean, crashed into a reef in a Polynesian archipelago.

1959 - The U.S. launched Explorer 6, which would send back the first picture of the Earth.

1960 - The Cuban Catholic Church condemned the rise of communism in Cuba. Fidel Castro then banned all religious TV and radio broadcasts.

1964 - The U.S. Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, which gave President Johnson broad powers in dealing with reported North Vietnamese attacks on U.S. forces.

1989 - A small plane carrying U.S. Congressman Mickey Leland, D-TX, and 15 others disappeared during a flight in Ethiopia. The wreckage of the plane was found six days later. There were no survivors.

1990 - U.S. President George H.W. Bush ordered U.S. troops and warplanes to Saudi Arabia to guard against a possible invasion by Iraq.

1998 - The U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania were bombed killing 224 people and injuring over 5,500. Osama bin Laden was later indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury in connection with the attacks.

2003 - In California, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he would run for the office of governor.

2003 - Stephen Geppi bought a 1963 G.I. Joe prototype for $200,000.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

Coffee's ready. The heck with the ph00. I made it yesterday and no one wanted it. Now it's all scummy and fuzzy in the pot!

Morning gang,

Finally got a week at home. So much time spent dealing with all the happenings while I was gone, I haven't even had a chance to ride the scooter. That will be fixed today.

Bought another truck to replace Clifford (the 01 model that DIL totaled). Got an '07 SLT Big Horn 3500 four door long bed. 5.9 w/6 speed. Local truck. 70K miles. Well maintained. ~80% highway miles pulling a 2 horse trailer. Anything I need to know and or look out for on the 3rd (?) generation?

Headed to Ft. Hood, TX tomorrow. Short job so I should be back by the end of the week. Wonder what will break or get broke while I'm gone?

Will be headed to Redmond, OR, Ft. McCoy, WI, and Barstow, CA starting in September. As to be expected, it will be a OR to home to WI to home to CA run. Lots of miles and windshield time.

The sun is up and it's time to have some quality one on one time with the scooter and Murphy Bear.

Later,

Shortround out

Greetings. Scott, you got the formula just right for ALL TURD Pho0o0.

......

Up here we gauge summer by our fair that comes to town. It finished yesterday. We know its over too.
Some real bad storms rolled through last night. Tornado warnings, 2 ft of hail in the ditches but our neighborhood was spared. Chance of storms again today.
Some of these storms this summer are the worst on record for up here.

Enjoy the scooter Shortround!

Yup, camping with internet. This campground has wireless, most places I go do not and are far less crowded. We came here with a bunch of friends that made the initial arrangements.

Yeah, they get paid appropriately for the cost of living.
Since Im in the oil industry, most of the people I worked with will then take a October or November holiday in Asia and Christmas shop there. Bounce all over the region buying clothes, electronics, knock off watches. and only spend less on gifts (including airfare) than they would have buying in Norway.

North Carolina and yes to Internet, but I plan on doing some under the covers search and rescue. Or In Chaikwas case, hide and seek.

We have a retarded boy who goes to camp once a year. So for one month, my wife and i have some freedom. And some privacy.

No Scotty. . . You can't come

After being at work for a few hours I was informed that my co workers wife's Ford Edge was almost wrecked by the hail we got. Then I am told that the plows had to come out to clear the highways and there was over 24" of quarter to baseball sized hail on the ground in many areas.
The area of the city where I live got a bit of rain only.

Thats crazy.
Almost as crazy as meeting Polaraco on vacation.
