Good afternoon, had a productive day finally released the loco for service today after 2 months. Tested it out with the yard crew and it pulled 37 fully loaded gondolas loaded with steel coils. The little v6 pulled it with thtottle left on the control lever. I think the fully loaded gons can hold 188,000 inside them. The yard crew said it hasn't done that kind of work in several years, i guess it didn't have the power until we fixed it the right way. Got some ribs ready to go on the grill for dinner tonight. Gonna go wash the truck now and do some work outside. Takin' some sweet tea with.

Today was a sad day. Had to sell my Vulcan.
Price of heating oil just keeps going up same as everything else and winter is comming. #2 heating oil is about $4.50/gal now and is predicted to go to
$9.00
depending on who's predicting around here.
That was one of the things I swore I'd never sell but I guess it beats freezing this winter. Now I wonder how to pay for heat for the second half of the comming freeze. (I have an extra kidney I guess
)

Madhat, in my opinion they are alot easier to work on. Its mainly the size of the compontents that make it easier. Now that mechanically, electrically they can be a nightmare according to our electricians. They have alot of pluses and they also have some minuses too when it comes to working on them.

Evening
Good news.... Eldest daughter phoned and I'm going to be a grandpa. Man I'm to young to be a grandpa. Don't feel that old. Big day should be in the beginning of Feb. WOOHOO get to spoil the little gaffer and then send him/her back home so she can deal with them. REVENGE IS SWEET (insert evil laugh here) J/K Too bad they live so far away, 6 1/2 hrs. Son just phoned and told us he's going to be an uncle so she must be phoning everyone in the family. Other daughter will be really excited to finally be an aunt.
At work we are dismantling a above ground flow line. It's made out of 4" drill stem. Cutting it into 8 ft. lengths. Hmmm 8 ft lengths... aren't fence posts about 8 ft long? Funny how that seemed to work out. I'm building fence and we're cutting steel pos... I mean flow line up. Should be about 50 or 60 8 fters. That should keep me out of trouble for a while. Better make sure it ends up where I want it cause It's not moving after it's in the ground and all welded out. Mark you ever build a steel fence? What was the length between posts? I have 2" for the top rail. Don't know what to use for the mid and Btm.
Time to go out side and do some measuring and see if we can come up with a plan. Later...
