So who has collies??? lets see the pics! my neighbor has 2 litters of border collies, their father won 3rd in the USA. and i get 2nd pick of the males. They are 2 weeks old now, so they will be ready the end of this month.
he said that he would help me train my pup. That will help. We have turkey houses and im wanting to train him to move the birds
(we move 20,000 turkeys from one house to another, its a redneck thing
)
So what do yall run your dogs with? sheep, cattle? or do you just take it with you where ever you go? Lets hear the stories, i cant wait till i get mine

I have a border collie. Shes about 11 years old now and we got her when she was about 3, plus she came pregnant! Not bad for a free dog haha. Also shes the rare brown/red color which is pretty cool. Unfortunately she was beaten by her previous owners so anything that makes loud noises (guns etc), looks like a broom handle she runs away asap. My dog though was kind of a dud when it came to herding. She didn't listen too well which is one of the reasons why the PO got rid of her. Mind you her instincts take over when she sees a herd of sheep. Pretty cool to watch IMO
.
These dogs are extremely smart and they need to be outside on a farm, herding something whether it be cattle, turkeys, kids or even the lawnmower. Keep them active and train them well and you will have yourself one heck of a dog. Never underestimate a border collie, they can get pretty dang witty and will pull some stuff off you didn't think a dog could do

. My dog learned to bump the gate and various doors and screen doors with her nose. Plus she carries her food dish around till she finds a spot she likes.

It's somewhat ironic... After the dog was "corporally punished" once for killing a few chickens he know refuses to so much as look at chickens, and is now chased around the yard by the neighborhood feral roosters. Karma...
But, despite the ease with which he learned not to eat the chickens, no matter what we do we cannot get him to stop yapping at the horses. All day, all night, whenever he feels like it, he goes out and yaps for minutes at a time. He has been trampled by a horse twice, and we know he's been kicked in the face at least once, but the dog still won't stop yapping at the horses! They ignore him for the first five minutes and then they just charge him. Stupid dog's had higher medical bills in the past five years then I've had.
Despite all of that, the dog's a total sweetheart.
my buddys boarder collie has had 5 concusions from being kicked by the horses because he has one horse that he plays with and the horse plays back well he thinks he can do that to every horse and he tries and gets kicked so when were gone and he has to be left out side we put a C Collar on him as a make shift helmet so he wont die from any more concusions

BB guns, electro-shock collars, yelling and getting trampled don't work for a second...

.I put a picture of my border collie in my gallery. A little stubborn but shes a pretty good dog.
Our Border Collies also constantly harass the horses, day and night.
To watch, one would think that the horses were deaf; they don't offer even the slightest acknowledgement that the dogs even exist.
My son's BC even swings from the horse's tails and tries to tug them backwards by the tail; she will plant her feet in the ground and try so hard to hold the horse back.
They must be pretty quick, because they defy death several times a day.
Ooops, wrong picture.
Here's the real one. Specs is a BC mix I picked up in Colorado 4 1/2 years ago when she was 6 weeks old. Her mother, and brother from a previous litter, were sitting on the flatbed of an old Dodge truck. Both were very calm and well behaved. I thought, hmmmmmm, maybe this will be a good pup.
WRONG! She's crazy as a bed bug and has more energy then the law allows. But, she's family now and we just accept her for what she is.
She's only been kicked in the head by a horse one time. Almost lost her. The consussion was so bad that she bled through her eyes. She still messes with the horses some, but not very often and is much more careful.
