Remeber after 9/11 how everyone was terrified of anthrax? And shortly thereafter smallpox?

Albeit those would be man-made outbreaks, and bird flu would be a natural occurance...

But back then near-mass hysteria broke out. People wouldnt open the mail, bought gas masks, and taped themsleves inside their home...

Then mad cow...Werent we all supposed to die from tainted meat? People quit buying beef, ate more chicken, and even went veg


Somebody mentioned SARS...I'd forgotten about that




While I dont doubt its nasty stuff, I think its more media-inflated hype...for now at least

 

Just think about how good the economy would be with election year coming up if everybody started spending all their money stockpiling weeks worth of supplies. It would take most people months to spend enough money to feel comfortable and would be a few more months for the slowdown to start reflecting in the marketplace. Politicians would be heroes for creating a booming economy. Rural home sales, food, bottled water, firearms, ammo, and air filtration systems would just a few items that would be in hot demand.

 

Eat Sour Kraut or however you spell it. You know, that pickled, fermented cabbage stuff. They say it will prevent you from getting it for some reason. Soldiers are being tanked up on the stuff before they go over seas I heard.

 

I remember Saur Krout being on the 14 day menu, but I don't remeber eating any more of it that we did anything else. This must be something new. Only thing I got tired of on the last Pre Mob was chicken. I hoped to never see another peice of chicken. Figured some local farmer must have been givin it away.

 

It amazes me what people worry about and what they actually do. They will buy bottled water because someone told them it's good for them, then they smoke. They buy a grease burger & fries with a diet coke.

The leading cause of death in young people (under 34) in accidents. Car accidents kill 60,000 people and cripple 500,000 more a year and people never think twice about driving, but when a small plane crashes people are all of a sudden aviation experts and are afraid to fly.

SARS is a perfect example. People were buying masks as a fashion statement and wearing them on the sides of their face to be cool.

Asprin alone kills 5,000 people a year, but you never hear about that because it's not "news worthy".

 

What i love about this sort of situation are the rumors and "urban legends" that get started.....
look at the "medical propertys" of sour cabbage that is already being passed around.........gotta love it......
Oh, and remember ....Dont let your kids play with dead chickens.......

 

Yeah and someday, a meteor is going to come screaming in from deep space and destroy half the world's population too. My wife saw that Bird Flu "expert" on Oprah yesterday too, and was all upset.

Anyone else here besides me that stood in line at the government clinics in the late 70's to get a "Swine Flu" shot? It never materialized.

...and never, ever, touch a public restroom door handle. Also, keep your hands off an escalator handrail ....they're black for a reason!

 

Why is it that all this crap usually come from Asia?

 

This morning on the news it stated that 30-40 people had been killed in Asia and Turkey by the bird flu since it's discovery. I'd be willing to bet that the regular flu has killed at least twice that amount in the same time period. But again, to report that would not help ratings.

 

I believe it! Got sick while I was in Shanghai last summer, stomach bug. The second day with it the vendor took me to a German beer house and told me to eat sourkraut, said it will cure me. Sure enough, the next morning I was fine.

So, basically I should just wait on making my move to the country until the poor sap that owns the place I REALLY want dies....then I'll just move in, stick a big Hoss flag in the front yard and call it mine.

You folks are getting all worked up over nothing. The sky is NOT falling.

Is it possible that this huge "pandemic" will break out and lots of people will die? Sure it is. It has happened many times in the past. It should come as no surprise that it can happen again.

Is it going to kill off half the world's population? Not a chance. This isn't the end of the world folks. That will be by fire...not bird flu.

Now...will I do what it takes to protect my children and wife? Absolutely.

That thing about plenty of free housing was meant to be more of a joke than anything. If all there doomsday predictions were right I think it would be realistic, but I'm not a doomsdayer. I didn't buy an extra can of food or even back up my computer for the end of the human race during the Y2K predictions.

 

Let me guess, concrete is heavily used in the process?
