The Big Texan Free 72oz. Steak

My wife has been addicted to the Travel Channel lately and I've seen a few shows about The Big Texan. Well, the challenge here is to eat an entire 72oz. steak, side salad, baked potato, and a roll in 1 hour or less. If you do it's free, if not it's $72.00 . Hmmm.

In October I'm heading down to Mississippi for school for my new job. I can run through Amarillo (where The Big Texan is located) on my way. I'm a really big steak eater and I think I can do this. It'll take some preparation, but I'm confident.

Has anyone else done this and has a story about it?

I've got a couple of other challenges I'm going to attempt while I'm down there, but I'm the most excited about this one.

(I plan on getting on the "15 dozen" wall at the Acme Oyster House.)

I've seen that too. I'm tempted to get a trip together for my brother and I to do it.

Aww. That's the steak for wimps. Come on down here to Plantersville and get the 84 ounce steak. Only been three people ever eat it and all the trimmins in the time allowed. The last guy ate it, all the side stuff AND a whole cheese cake and still had time to spare. Now THAT my friend, is a meal.

Relay Station on 105. Not much there. It's about a mile east of the 1774 and 105 intersection. If you ever make it there, it'll be an adventure. it's an old building, kinda run down but fixed up a little. it's divided in two parts. The restaurant and a bar. The bar has some unbelievably hand carved south ends of north bound horses. for barstools. To me, worth a trip just to see them if your anywhere near there. I'm also not going to profess it as the cleanest place either. But it aint bad enuff to keep me out. These folks KNOW how to cook steaks.

See. I told ya'll. I think I might need to go there this weekend. It used to be owned by a dude named Larry that also moves buildings like your see on the hauling house show. He's moving some now for the school district I work at. Don't know if he still owns it or not. He has a very old gorgeous red Mac truck that he restored. It is nothing but brute strength. He's moved some very very big stuff with it through the years.
