kurtaing Always check the loads as well as the condition of the gun when handed over....condition meaning loaded/unloaded! You were very lucky....it must've been a Ruger.
I've got a .357 GP100 and a .44 Super Blackhawk, neither have ever failed me and i know they wont. My father has owned probably 20 or more Rugers over his lifetime and has never had one go wrong, his latest was the 9mm P98 we traded for the GP100.

From what he described, I suspect this was most likely an ammunition caused issue rather than a reflection of the quality of the firearm...

Was the ammo old, handloaded improperly, or maybe stored improperly?

Though we've spoken about getting the gun checked out before using it, I'd also be thinking about not using the rest of that lot of ammunition.

ive had ammo swell before, i had a box of Black Talons for my .357 and they swelled at the base and they wouldnt go in the gun, really made me mad, those bullets are almost a 100 bucks a box or more now cause you cant find them.

Before you ue that gun again, I would take a hacksaw and cut it up to see what is wrong with it. Either that, or take it to a pro and have it dimensionally checked and maybe even x-rayed for fatigue to the barrell. My first choice would be my choice. It's not worth it to take a chance on the next full power round going down the barrell and coming from together. A guy that use to work here had a 22 that someone had sent nine rounds down the barrell and stacked them all up neatly. He was very lucky.
