ATV Winch suggestions?

I'm looking at this http://cgi.ebay.com/3500lb-UTV-Winch-Polaris-Ranger-RZR-VIPER-MAX-3500-lb-/370402012868?? and this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3500l...Q5fAccessories.

I've heard good things about the Viper Max but really haven't heard much on the Extreme. I don't plan on using the thing that much so I just want a good bang for the buck. Does anyone have any input on these or others to look at?

This will go on my '09 RZR.

I just stuck a 5000# Viper Max on my 2010 800 Ranger and havent had much chance to use it yet but hte little I have it works fine. I paid $225 to my dore plus $40 for the dash mounted swich. The only thing I am a little woried abought is that the first time I unspooled it and re wound teh cable with tension on it the sungear side(oposite the motor) got REAL hot. I havent had a chance to call them and ask if thats normal or not but I cant see how it would be.

I bought a champion ATV winch for 140.00 and use it all the time. its not on my ATVs but on the shop rafters I use it to lift all 4 of my atvs into the rafters in one shot it has worked flawless for 4 years now I was sorta worried it would be a piece of junk but, its great and strong. I keep the ATVs up off the ground for shop space and when the kids want to ride I lower them down then back up when there done riding. I dont even have a Battery on it I use my charger set at 40 amp the brake seems to hold the load fine . my .02

They all come with a snach block so if 3500 isent enough you can use that and you will have 7000, just 1/2 the speed.

I thought abought that but decided seeing as how the 5000# was not much more money I went that way and now if I have to use the snach block and 10,000# isent enough then it can stay where its stuck.

The $225 to my dore does not include a model specific mount either. I got it with the generic mount and built my own multi mount so I can put it in back or the front because 90% of the time you wana go back the way you came not farther into whatever your stuck in.
After these pics where taken I painted it with a spray on bed liner in a can that is a real close mach to the color and texture that the facotry powder coated bumper is.

I don't think 3500 is enough. I have a hard enough time with a 2500 on a quad.

Make sure whatever you get is sealed. I've heard good things about Viper and use a Warn myself, I understand they mount the same and use the same hardware.

Thats a nice mount but I'd triangulate it some and mount in other areas of the frame too. I think you'll rip those bolt from the frame eventually.

Spend a few more $$$$ on some synthetic winch rope. Much easier to work with than the braided steel cable and safer too.

or something similar.

I am a CNC Machinist and work with metal all day long building componenets that go in Hydraylic Cylinders. Even though 5000# is a big winch for an ATV/UTV its nothing in the big picture. There is no need to tiangulate the mount with the way I have it built. The arms going back into the frame tube are .75x1.25 and stick into the frame abought 5 inches. The bolts going threw are .4375. The force it would take to shere them would rip the entire front of the Ranger off. The tubes I have it mounted in are thicker and stronger than the radiator mounts and front bumper that the store boughten mounts bolt to. The store boughten mounts bolt to the flimsy uprites in pic 2 and the bumper wich is atached with self tapping shetmetal bolts.

If I rip it off I will let ya know but dont hold your breath. I would bet good money that my mount is stronger than any store boughten one. My only isue with the entire thing is that my budy that welded it together for me has a **** pore eyeball and it isent quite all straight but it works.

Well, I went ahead and splurged on the 4K unit http://motoalliance.com/index.cfm/pa...d/89#family_89 and discovered if you tell them that you belong to a RZR forum you'll recieve a 5% discount ($204.24 to my door).

I did ask about the USA thing and only the mounting brackets are made in the good ole USA and the winch comes from China. I've heard great things about them so I'm not that worried.
