Attention Oil GuRu's

Since I can't afford to daily drive my cummins on my 50 mile commute to work everyday I have a 99 chevy malibu. When I bought it, it had about 100,000 miles on it and I changed the tranny fluid and filter, and just put some fleet farm tranny fluid in it. I now have about 205,000 miles and going to change fluid and filter again, is it worth it to run a synthetic fluid in the tranny at this point? What would I gain? I plan on running this car into the ground, it's not a rust bucket yet, and runs pretty sound. Just wondering at this point if it's worth the extra cost for synthetic auto tranny fluid. Thanks.

If its been running that long on standard, putting synthetic more than likely will cause you issues. Most synthetics have more detergents and cleaning agents would will loosen up all of gunk that is holding it together now.

Just keep doing what you have been doing and run her to the ground!

Ditto.. Nothing wrong with Dino oils at all. Just by changing the oil and filter, you are in the 5% of those that actually care and it will last longer than you want to keep it!
