Armalite AR-50?

Curious if anyone in here has any experience with the Armalite AR-50? How did you like it? Any comparisons you could provide to other .50's (particularly the Barrett M99 or Steyr HS.50) would be especially helpful...

Thanks.

Chris

My son has an AR-50, loves it, shoots well, even has a 8.5 inch group (at 1000 yards) in his first competition. You need a good scope, with lots of power. He uses my Leopold 8.5-25x50 Mark 4 on his. My first .50bmg was a Barrett M82a1, and I now have a 95M to go along with it. Both shoot excellent, the M82a1 does not shoot type groups being a semi-auto, but sure is fund. The 95M equals the AR-50 in accurracy. If you haven't shot a 50, the recoil is about like a 12 gauge shotgun, but the muzzle blast is unbelievable for anyone to your left and right.

I love mine. The only problem is finding 1000yds of range. Nice bipod & 8-24X75 variable scope makes a sweet accurate combo. AR-50 has one of the most effective muzzle brakes out there. I can shoot it all day as long as I don't have to carry it far (appx 35+ lbs).

Check out barretts new .416. It was based off of the .50 but much better. It shoots further, faster and flatter. It'd be my choice for a ridiculously large bore gun.

Kalifornia made a stupid .50 cal law. Barrett refused to service the LE models because of it. Then they came up with the 416 that they now market to Kalifornia.
I wish I had an M82 as well, Lance!
I think I have a pic of me shooting on in my gallery.
I thought about getting the AR conversion for the 50 cal. It is a single shot bolt action, and it is an upper that you can put on your AR/M16 Lower receiver. 2500.00 or so.

I thought about that too. Until I realized, Why would I wanna beat the TAR out of a perfectly good AR lower with an upper/barrel combo that was NOT designed to handle the brute force of the almighty .50BMG?

Maybe it's just me, but I would actually like my take down pin holes to remain round, not oval!

My friends have both the Armalite and the Barrett. Barrett wins. But not by much.

I don't think that would really be an issue. Maybe if you were going to shot 10's of thousands of rounds.
Next time I go to a show, I will ask them.

Yeah, the oval analogy might be a bit overboard. But I'd just hate to risk a perfectly good lower to chance!

BTW, is it the Ferret conversion the one you're talking about?

I would love to get a Vulcan Arms V50SS-100. I have shot one before, great rifle. It always turns heads when you put a round through it.

I forgot to add in my previous post, check out www.biggerhammer.com and www.fcsa.com , they are .50 bmg site. Biggerhammer has been getting a lot of spam lately, but lots of informtion on 50's. FCSA is the Fifty Caliber Shooting Association.
