Nope--in South Dakota the license plates stay on the vehicle when you sell it. Maybe just us and Texas.

WA state the plate stays with the vehicle, unless it is a vanity plate and you want to keep that plate. That is what I did. Just kept the vanity plate and other vehicles plate stayed on them.
