Anyone here reload ammo?
I'm looking to get into it. My uncle gave me one of those Lee hand reloading kits just to get me started, but it takes forever. Plus, now I'm hooked on it. I've seen his setup, but wondering what equip. you guys use, what's the best deal to start with. I've been lookin at the RCBS rock crusher. I'm gonna be reloading 38spl and .480 Ruger for now until I get another gun. At about $1.50 a shot, the .480 is my main concern.
I used the Rock Chucker for years and had no problems with it. It's a great hobby and lots of fun dialing in loads at the range. I haven't reloaded since having kids. Finding I have less and less time for myself. It's all good though and I love having my three boys into everything I'm into. The eight year old has finally started coming to the range with me. He's pretty good with the .22. Once he gets up and going with his .243 I'll probably get him into reloading and then the other two as well. All five of us shooting will dictate having to reload just for the sheer cost savings.
Have fun and read lots of books. Speer makes a few books that are a must read in my opinion. Be careful and pay lots of attention.

I enjoy reloading, and in my younger days wouldn't have been able to enjoy shooting much without the price savings.
For a single stage press, I don't think you can go wrong with the RCBS Rock Chucker (I've got one).
If you need other equipment, shopping around for the package deal (scale, powder measure, book...) can be a good value.

you might look into Dillion at Blue Press for multi stage press the rl550d is a very nice all around unit have had ours for 12yrs.
Ive reloaded for over 30 years and still do, the dillon is a great press, I even cast my own bullets, lead for the 38 special, no good for 357 as its too hot and leads the barrel, great hobby. just be real carefull you can double load a hand gun cartridge and it can and will blow, rifle cases are a lot easier to do, just dont go over the loads, good luck
I don't shoot any factory ammo unless I get it for free. I have a Dillon 550 and Lee Pro-1000 that I load handgun ammo on and a RCBS Jr and Rock Chucker for all of my rifle ammo. Reloading is the best way to get your guns to shoot to their max potential by tailoring loads to them, and it's rewarding to shoot your own. I agree with the above, watch your powder charges. That's really the biggest concern when loading.
RCBS Rock Chucker! I have one and love it! You can get a cheaper setup but this press is high quality and will most likely outlast you! You can get some very good deals on some starter kits as well.

I have RCBS equipment and buy most of my stuff here. http://www.midwayusa.com/
Its extremely time consuming and I find it difficult to make time to load anymore. I found it to be fun and it really unlocks the potential of some less popular rounds. I have a 45-70 Ruger #1 and its an animal with 48.4 grains of Reloader #7
I have found that different guns like different brands of bullets. Its not always in your best interest to be brand loyal with any of the reloading components. My 280 likes Speer grand slams, .223 Noslers etc. etc.
Its an addiction and you will have lots of fun doing it.

Another good reloading source aside from RCBS and Lee is Lyman. Lyman makes some good stuff too.
I don't reload much any longer, at least not since I stopped shooting competitively, but I used a Lee 1000 and one of the first Dillon's to come out years ago to great success for all my handgun ammo. I started on a rockcrusher then went to the Lyman turret press for rifle ammo.

Im looking to get into it. My dad did alot of it in his younger days. Right now it dosnt make much sense as I dont have anywhere to set up a press in my apartment...and I only spend the occasional weekend visiting them. We have tons of brass and bullets but need new powders and primers. All the equipment is RCBS, so another shameless plug for the Rock Chucker (although it could double as a crusher). That thing will outlast all of humanity! Its one of the most sturdy presses out there. Youd have no problems with it reloading your .480, just find a good sturdy bench and bolt that sucker down!

I can reload a hundred or so rounds in a evening.
No, its not fast, but Im in no hurry. Its something I enjoy.
I reload 20ga for skeet at a friends house with a Spolar Gold with hydrolics... Looked at getting into it but there is not much savings in 12ga and 20ga over cheap federal game loads. Do get the satisifaction of doing it myself more than the savings. Looked at getting a MEC 9000 but have access to a killer reloader than can do about 1000 rds an hour.
