We are trying to stream line our accounting and are thinking about getting 2-3 gas cards for our construction company for me and the other owner.
Anyone use gas cards? We've considered doing gas allowances at the beginning of the month but that might not work out depending on travels. For a long time we've been charging our company debt cards but this is really screwing up our checking accounts.
Any advice?

I've never owned a gas card.
Corrals you into using one brand or another.
Instead I use my MASTERCARD or AMEX for my expenses and just pay it off at the end of every month. No interest that way and now reason to go to a specific station.

not sure what all features your looking for.
The gas card that a stop and rob I worked at used (dont remember the company). Some cards required mileage to be entered on hte card and were only good for fuel, some cards were good for anything but alcohol.
What ever card you choose, just be sure your company has someone actually watching what is spent when and where. If someone is getting odd fuel mileage, call them on it.
Since its only a couple people, I would either just keep expensing it or get a corporate card. Personally, when we paid expenses weekly, I run all my expenses on my personal card, now that we get paid monthly, I use my p-card.

I want one that just buys fuel as mentioned above and I can use at different stations. I like the idea of the mileage having to be logged, I have 2 company cars for myself though so that might be hard to do for myself. I have a car, my truck in my sig, and my partner has an 09 2500 cummins.
I think Amex has a charge card for this, I'll have to look into them as well.

Will look into that wrightexpress, looks like thats what I need, we had a meeting today and decided enough spending on the company debt cards for things like coke and snuff when filling up. Too much temptation and we just need a gas only card.
I work for Pa. State. We have the Voyager card for fuel. Need to enter milage and employee ID. When we got a new Ranger and tried to use a card tied to a vehicle with 90+K miles the card was declined until it got "reset". Keith
We use Fuelman cards here. Each card can be set differently. Only diesel, only gas, both. Fuelman is not accepted at all stations but the list is fairly long. We do not have a problem but it may be because we have a couple places close by that do accept it. Another option is to get a card from a large chain Shell for example then you can use it at any Shell station. Again the card can be tailored to the user only certain type of fuel, can purchase oil but nothing else or can purchase anything they sell. On the reports that they send you each card is broken out so if one card should be charged to one cost center and another card another cost center it is easy to do. They list each fill up, type of fuel, gallons, cost and iirc even $/gal, location, even odometer readings if you can get them to put it in.
We use Wrights Express as well and I rarely have find a station that wont accept it. As a manager, it allows me to give a fuel card to my crews who travel a lot and I can track their spending pretty easily. Even with the mileage, I can still see when they fill up there truck and bed fuel tank for equipment.
I have been able to catch people too who are abusing it as well, ie filling up morning and afternoon with minimal mileage increase and the people who fill up Friday afternoon and Monday morning (I do not pay for weekend fuel).
I dont know what type of deal we have with WE.
