I am thinking about getting a Mac soon. Just tired of the whole Windows deal. I've heard good things about Macs. How are they vs. all the Windows computers?

Any info is appreciated!

 

Well I do not have a Mac but I am with you, I am certainly thinking that will be my next computer.

 

LINUX seems good

 

My parents got an imac at my urging and I actually don't like using it. It looks cool and I know just about everything about it is better but somehow I find it a lot harder to use. I could be totally off here but there is no "right click" and I can't figure out how to open multiple windows. My girlfriend loves her macbook and she's had it for months but when I ask her how to do something simple (like open something in another window) she doesn't know how. I probably need more time with the machines but that is my initial impression. Getting back on my Vaio is very refreshing even though it is a total POS.

 

I just got a new desktop Mac a couple months ago.
Although, at first, since it's a little different than a PC, it seems awkward, but in the long run, it is more user friendly.
For example, almost everything is drag and drop, instead of "click this, right click that, copy and paste."
Fewer parts, more compact, virus free, are also pluses.
More expensive, but better built.
Their technical help is good, in plain English, from an American, not from New Dehli and hard to understand from an Indian named Steve.
I heard they were going to have some sales for the holidays.
Nice Machine.

I'm on my Intel Mac Mini right now, and I have an iBook G4 upstairs.

You'll love the Mac - but if you are heavy into WSindows based programs or games, you might need a little adjusting.

You'll love the fact that your computer NEVER gets error messages.

You don't have to worry about Spyware, Adware, Virus threats, or anything else that Windows users fear.

The interface is VERY easy.

You might want to learn the keyboard shortcuts as well.

Pick up a copy of MacWorld and take a gander.

It seems that every windows computer I have had has been quick at first, but within a month it gets slower and slower starting up and shutting down, loading stuff, etc. There are so many times where it just sits like it is confusded, like at shut down it can sometimes sit for several minutes and finally I just hit the power button.

I had a fiasco last night, as I couldn't log off of my user account. I had to just shut it off. Then I couldn't get back on it. My girlfriends account worked fine, but hers was set to standard so I couldn't access my user account. I had to go into safe mode, where I actually could log into my user account and change her account to Admin, then turn it off again and log back into hers then delete my user account. I created a new user account for me and I lost everything I had on my old account. I didn't have anything too important but oh well. Maybe it could have been fixed, maybe not....but I am impatient and I'll say this computer was more likely to go airborne before I took the time to figure it out.

Norton says the computer is clean, there's nothing wrong with it. That's annoying because there are times I feel there is some type of spyware or adware slowing it down.

Why is it that the Mac runs so much better? NO errors? No spyware/adware? How do they do that?

 

I have iMac it's the best tons of useful programs. Never going back to PC.
By the way there is a right click and file menu will allow u to open multiple windows/pages on web

 

Macs are UNIX based.

At the university here I see both worlds. Hardware wise, Mac and windows based computers have about the same failure rate (intel chips, hard drives (lots), etc). Operating system wise, the Mac is far superior, though there are getting to me more and more virus' written for the mac, so they cannot get too smug about that. You need to have a good anti virus program.

That being said, my next machine with be a 24" iMac...

 

None of the viruses are of any threat to the user - its more of a "Look what I did"

Once you go Mac, you won't look back.

 

I'll have to go check out the Mac demo booth at Best Buy. I keep meaning to but there's so many other things I have been more interested in.

 

I have two Macs here at home. Wife and I both have iPhones and the kids each have an iPod. I was a non-believer, but the wife was a Mac person from the start. I have seen the light and am now a born again Mac user. We will never own anything else. Come into the light, you won't regret it.

 

I am a mac user. Would never go back to a PC. This is my third mac. Currently own a G4 iMac and a Intel MacBook. Love them both.

Don't count on that. At a K-12 school district, we have about 7,000 of them. You will get errors eventually. Just using it as a home computer, you might not see much.

Untrue again. There are several Mac virus out there. Again, as a home user you won't see much of them. You'll see more of this around a University setting. Macs worst part is they can be carries of viruses. They'll have them and it won't affect them, but if you have a small home network, they can spred to pc's. Make sure you stop and disable the Windows messaging service to stop most of that transfer.
