Anyone else here quit smoking?

Well I have been smoking for about 7 years now. I finally thought I'd give it up, One for health and Two $4,000 a year will do some sweet things to the Cummins and possibly buy another 12V .

Its been 2 days since I have had a smoke (Will be 3 days at midnight tonight)
lets just say it hasnt been easy... I'm wearing a Nicotine patch, and I have to say they really do help, at least for me anyways.

Was just wondering if anyone had any other tricks to help quit?

Hope everybody is having a great Thanksgiving!!

I smoked for 8 years at about 3 packs a day. I had to quit while I was still young. My family has a bad history with smoking. Grandpa died at 61 and my dad's health is very poor due to smoking. Dad and I both used Zyban to quit. Worked well for us

I'll be praying for you - keep it up!

I have never smoked, and I am very thankful no one in my family did either. However I have many friends who have and I know it's a very though one to kick.

Almost makes me weep seeing high school students lighting up now. To anyone considering starting...please...find a better addiction!

I smoked pretty good for about 15 years. When I finally quit, I used the gum.
I'll tell you what really worked for me though. Every time I went a few days or weeks and started again, I felt terrible about it. So the next time I tried to quit, and was tempted to have a smoke, I thought back to how bad I felt the last time I caved. The satisfaction of knowing I had the will power to go without the smoke, was better than the smoke itself.

Good luck!!!! Set your mind to it, and you can kick it!!!

Thanks for the support fellas! Always good to hear some stories and to know that your not alone trying to do something like this...
This evenin' I talked to a guy who smoked for 35+ years, he claims that any type of cinnamon rather it be artificially or natural flavor will help settle the cravings, plus the mental state of always having something in your mouth. So when I went to get fuel this evenin I bought a few packs of Big Red gum. It seems to help actually...
I just cant believe that im actually quittin after talkin about it for a year or two..
The hardest part will be gettin over not smoking while driving. I think I will put a pack of Big Red gum in my shirt pocket(where i used to keep the smokes), and everytime I crave a smoke i will start to chew on the gum..??

The key is set small goals for yourself.. Once you get past the 2 week mark the physical craving goes away. The mental craving never goes away.

I quit smoking 2 years ago. After 4 or 5 failed attempts with the patches, gum, and cold turkey(not in that order), I ended up using Chantix. It work great for me. Hang in there it is worth it.

I used to smoke 1 1/2 - 2 packs of Camel straights per day for about 15 years. I quit over 25 years ago. To quit, I smoked a pack of some really foul tasting lite tar and nicotine cigarettes while watching the Bears and the Packers go at it. Smoked myself sick. Like I said, Its been over 25 years and I still despise the smell of cigarettes.

Congratulations on your decision to quit.

Smoked 1.5 packs a day for 37 years. Quit at age 53 in 2001. It only took one heart attack and a quad by-pass to wake me up, haven't touched one since, but still love the smell of a freshly lit one though!!

Same here. Well, I guess I probably tried them when I was a kid, but a pipe has been my vice since I was 14 or so. Can't imagine giving it up either, but I applaud your decision to quit the cigarettes. Nasty, evil things they are!
