Again, if someone sees the guy you're referring to on the hillside, he just might get shot before he shoots YOU. If you've done something to make someone go to all the trouble of keeping themselves hidden and attempting to shoot you with a high powered rifle from 800 yards, even tho they may get shot themselves from someone like me who sees what is happening, then maybe you've done something to him that justifies your extermination.

.True. But what about the other 50 or so people in your general vicinity that are carrying weapons, ready to use them against you? And some of them may be like me that really don't care about the hostages' well-being as much as taking an idiot out of the population that thinks he can take hostages whenever he wants to, which endangers me and MY family. If I take you out, I may take the person you're holding hostage along with you, and that's a shame, but God only knows how many more people you would have put in harms way had you lived a full life span. The price I paid to remove you was that of your hostage, but you will not be taking hostages anymore.

I agree we need harder punishment. Way too much leinency in enforcement now a days with everyone believeing in rehabilitation and human rights. Human rights end when you take away another human's rights. End of story.
Cincy, I have never heard of someone being robbed or taken hostage from 800 yards away. If someone goes to those lengths, random acts, consider them an outlyer in the data; if it was a planned situation you did something big! We have to worry about shooting an intruder in our own home now a days! The criminals have more rights than we do.

I was just stating that people are going to kill regardless if the general public is armed.
Just look at your big inner-cities. Most of every thug drug dealer carries a gun and yet they still shoot at each other daily.

Then it would come down to who is the better/quicker shot I guess. Survival of the fittest.
Correct. Just like they are now! Might as well arm ourselves to give us a fighting chance at least.
And I encourage that behavior to continue. Eventually they will eliminate themselves.
