It is a silly article, I wonder how many people buy the premise. I really like the part when it describes "black soot that lodges in lungs and deposits on buildings", give me a break. I thought it was just C02 that was the greenhouse gas now there is even more, nitrogen oxide, CO and formaldehyde. They somehow fail to mention the environment impact of these fancy hybrids and their batteries, now that is real clean manufacturing those. What happens if I buy a Hybrid and then drive 3 times as much. The EPA sure has made a mess out of the automobile. Now they are trying to get us all to drive little cars. Any of the "green" cars would not even get my #6500 boat up my driveway let alone get up to minimum speed on the highway .

What I find interesting is the quote:
Americans still have a love affair with their vehicles, which are associated in their minds with freedom and independence
The implication is that the relationship of a vehicle to freedom/independence is ONLY IN YOUR MIND.

Ya, tell that to a teen who's hoping to get his license, or to a senior citizen who no longer has one--- that the relationship of the car to freedom/independence is ALL IN THEIR MIND..

HAHAHAHA.

Okay so they are dill weeds who hug trees and think bad guys are just misunderstood and should be given a hug and sent on thier marry way. Pscyo what, first you have to love the quote from the good Doctor(Pscyo) who leaves in Tenn? What dill weed hunted him down to get the quote? Then wrote the article sitting next to nice little stream, thinking it will all stay the same forever if everyone drove little hybrds. BATTIERS have tobe replaced and put where???

I dont believe a thing anymore about what these "scientists" tell us. Who knows if all this greenhouse hoobidajoo is even real? Are we really cooking our planet or going through a warming phase? How much CO2 did Mt. Saint Hellens emit?

How long have these gov't "scientists" told us that eating fatty foods will kill us with cholesterol and fat deposits in our arteries. Once you put your body into a state of ketosis your cholesterol levels will drop well beyond any danger level eating bacon fried in lard.

I am just waiting to see in 20 more years what the gov't will come up with next. It should be good.

I'm with chipmonk, thats the only thing they are good for. My department has a couple and they SUUUUUCK big time. I had a Cpl. drive me to HQ one day he pulled out in traffic and I thought I was going to DIE. He had the car(if you can call it that) floored and the cars behind us still had to slow down in order not to hit us. By the wy he didn't just pull out in front of traffic.

The Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI has a carbon footprint of 12.4, which means it emits 12.4 tons of greenhouse gases annually, according to the EPA’s standard calculations based on 15,000 miles of driving per year. Burning one gallon of gasoline emits 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, the EPA says.

I like how they are talking about a diesel vehicle and then cite a figure for gasoline. See underlined.

The other nice point is that they didnt include Farraris and Lambos and such since they are sold in such small numbers.

How many TDI Touaregs have you seen on the road? It was one of the fewest models of VW (not just Touaregs) brought to the states. They are very rare and quite expensive to buy.

it has to do with production numbers. there has to be a certain number of vehicles made per year for it to be considered a production vehicle- i don't think any Lambos or Ferraris qualify.

FYI, According to the unbiased article the Tourareg gets 13.43 mpg. The EPA claims an engine using diesel produces 22.2 lbs of CO2 per gallon (#20 lbs per gallon gas). So using the articles 15000 miles and 12.4 tons, 12.4 tons= 324800 lbs divide that by 324800/22.2= 1117 gallons, 15000 miles per year 15000/1117=13.43 mpg. My truck this year has an average of 16.5, mpg my carbon footprint is only 10 tons which beats the Touareg and the Commanche, yahoooo.

Ignorance overflows from Yahoonews.com. All the writers there are idiots. If you've read anything else there you'd see what I mean.
