Another Internet Scammer

Hey guys, here's a story. I posted a generator in the classifieds here, and about 2 days later I had a reply someone wanted it. We emailed back and forth, he said he would take care of the shipping. Now I'm getting suspicious, who's gonna ship a 175 dollar generator. The shipping would be more than it's worth, but whatever. I ask him for the address to send it to so I can put a label on it. The address is somewhere in the UK. Now I know he's up to no good. He says he's sent a cashiers check that I can cash anywhere, check cashing places he keeps telling me will cash it with "no problem". Yeah whatever dude. He then sends an email and says he put extra money on the check for shipping, and that I can send the extra money back to him. Yeah right! So I get the check today it's for 2500 bucks, that's right 2500, with a letter giving me 5 different email addresses and an address of the shipping outfit to send the "extra" money to. Needless to say I'm not going to do anything else with this moron. So any way we need to be careful with these people. However I wouldn't mind meeting this person you know in a back alley somewhere. You know to give him his change back. The name on his email is benmachaty@yahoo so if anyone is selling stuff in the classifieds don't even respond to this guy. My wife called the cops to report it but they said there's not much they can do 'til some sucker trys to cash the check and then the fraud is discovered.

This scam has been around for awhile. Anyone who's tried to sell anything in the classifieds has got this runaround. If it's overseas it's more than likely a scam.

It's probably a throw away account but you can try reporting it to Yahoo.

Just send any extra money to his broker. Run, don't walk, away from this guy.
