Am I Getting Paranoid???

Up until about a month ago, 78000 miles, My CTD was the best thing since indoor plumbing. Since then, warranty replaced lift pump, Which did not solve the cutting out problem. Waited 3 weeks for a new injector pump, which was finished on 12-19-03. Left for vacation.....Yesterday..up in Northern MN...was -19F at 11:00 am when I cranked it up....plugged in, no problemo. Drove for 150 miles, filled up when fuel gauge was just below 1/2. Temperature is now -4F....I know..regular heat wave. 50 miles later, while accelerating onto the interstate, check engine light comes on and the blasted thing just dies...Meanwhile, 200 dollars later, I'm towed back to the dealer...cranks fine, no fire..

So....while I'm contemplating suicide(for the truck)is there a safe way to keep any sanity for the present owner.....Or do I just grin and BARE it

Wonder if they failed to tighten a fuel line properly and it sucked some air, or maybe some ice in the fuel filter?

Hmmm- running fine until fillup- then goig bad.... this looks like a hint to really bad diesel- I hope you kept the receipt.
The rattle in the accelerator pedal on cruise is quite normal on these trucks- there was a TSB for it - rerouting the throttle cable. Maybe they've left yours loose somewhere while changing the pump.

Just my 2c

I've got the receipt Alpine, just for curiousity's sake, what good will it do me. Could I actually go to "Conaco" (sp) and request that they pay the tow bill and repair charges........never heard of them doing anything like that.

If they sold you bad fuel, then you can make them pay.

I got a bad tank once from Speedway, and promptly took my repair work and receipts back to the store manager and had a check in the mail for all repairs and the price of the fuel.

I'm trying to contain myself, today is Friday, its now 1500/3:00 CST. Called the dealer about 2 hours ago, (my truck has been there since it died on Monday afternoon) and the dirty, no good, two bit tinhorns, snakes in the grass.......(I'm running out of swear words) havn't even LOOKED at the truck.

Just got off the phone with Dodge INC and their warranty line/complaint line.

I've been sober since May of 1986, but I'm ready to start drinking again!!!!

Ok----not mad enough to start on the bottle again---just in case any of my AA sisters and brethren are watching.....Thanks for letting me vent...Bob b

It kind of sounds like maybe you were sold some summer fuel, and it plugged your filter. Don't know if that would make the CEL come on, though. In any case, it sounds awefully frustrating.

Thanks to all you guys and gals who have put up with my insanity this past week, I know that I was going insane...because the wife had me talked into looking at a new GASSER, and then to make matters worse, I was actually considering it! AAAAaaHHHHHHHH.

Dealer just called me(a week after dropping a dead ram on their doorstep) and for the second time in less than 2,000 miles, I'm the lucky recipient of a new VP-44 injector pump, courtesy of Dodge

Now if I can just get Dodge to pay for the tow bill , ya never know til ya try....

Thanks again
Magnum

They really have to jump through many hoops to get a VP44 replaced under warranty anymore.

When I got mine replaced, at 4,000 miles, it took 5 days from dropoff to pickup.

Battery of tests,
going over everything with a magnifying glass to check for tampering,
Ok'ing the replacement with STAR (the Daimler Chrysler warranty hotline),
ordering it,
shipping it,
then finally installing it (not a small task).

Glad they are taking care of you, eventually.
