Allowing Subsidiary Sign On Pop Up in XP

I'm having a bit of a problem. I am an Admin on our club website. One of my capabilities, of course is to lock or edit threads, members, etc. When I want to lock a thread, for example, I hit the lock icon by the side of the thread, and a subsidiary pop-up Admin Sign On window appears.

On my desktop, in which I have IE's Pop Up Blocker disabled, because I use Panicware's Popup Stopper, I simply hold the control key, and Popup Stopper allows the Admin Sign On box.

Now, on my new Dell laptop, when I click on the icon, the Admin Sign On box pops briefly, then shuts. Here is what I have done:

1. disabled IE's Pop Up Blocker (didn't work)
2. Allowed ALL popups from the that site in Pop Up blocker (didn't work)
3. Allowed that site as "trusted" in McAfee Firewall (didn't work)
4. Turned OFF McAfee Firewall (didn't work)
5. Temp disabled ALL McAfee security (didn't work)

What the heck?? I am running XP Pro with SP2 on my new (2 weeks old) Dell Inspirion laptop, and I cannot figure this out. My Dell Dimension desktop, which runs XP Home, with SP2, as I said, in which I run Norton, does not have this issues.

I figure it has GOT to be something with the McAfee, but why won't the sign on window stay open even with all security disabled?

I could really use your help, o gurus of all computers.

Thanks,

Scott

Oh, don't get me started on McAfee. I just had to do a full system restore on my Dad's computer because of that crappy software. Norton is just as bad.
I say delete McAfee and switch to Avast.

Not an option. I just spent BIGGO buck on this, and so far, except for this one issue, I really like the McAfee (MUCH better than the Norton on my desktop).

So, I need suggestions for getting around this using what I have. This system is only 2 weeks old, and this is really the only issue I have had, but it's kind of an important one for me.

Oh, wait, you mean SP2s firewall settings, right?

Well, that can't be it, as I have the SAME settings in XP on my laptop as on my desktop, firewall, Internet security and privacy, etc. So, it can't be that.

Still must have SOMETHING to do with McAfee, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out.

Hummm..... First of all dump IE! I perfer Mozilla.... but I do know that many of us are set in our ways with our trucks as well as computers....
If you have "allow popups" set it should go through fine, but there could be other things causing it to bomb out..... Not knowing the language the board is written in I am going to assume that the problem could be with ActiveX or .NET.
Check the security tab in Internet. From there click "custom level" Select "prompt" for the .NET and ActiveX settings that are marked "disabled" (should be the top 7). It could also be a Java issue and you might want eo down the Jave framework from Sun.

Thanks, I'll check that tonight. I have no idea what language the board is in. As I said, I'm new to this.

The actual scripting on the address (I was able to open the box here) is:

www.xxxxxxxxxxx.com/forum/pop_open.asp?mode=

Does seeing that language help anyone here understand?

Sorry I'm a dolt at this.

Active Server Pages. Yuck! POOEY!

Most likely an IE setting someplace. Widelod is most likely on the right track with his suggestions. And dump IE in favor of Firefox. Tabbed browsing rules!

Tried all that - didn't work. I also have Java Sun console in my Internet options tab, and I clear that.

I give up.

reset all ie settings back to default, add site to trusted zone.

if you are seeing it pop up and go away, thats usually a mcafee trait.

id say it didnt really disable when you disabled it.

open up services (services.msc at run command), and disable all mcafee services, in addition to their software "turn offs" and try again.
