1989-1992
PI September 1989, went to combat training, then mechanic training. Never drank as much beer and booze as I did on Camp Johnson!!
Volunteered for overseas duty...they were gonna send me anyhow.
Stationed at Iwakuni, Japan
MWSS-171 maintenance platoon fixin' 5 tons, LVS and a host of other old time things us Marines get passed down to us from the "other" departments.
That's where I stayed, re-upped for another year and got put out on a Med for crappy knees. Wish I stayed in and just ignored the pain.....kinda like I do now. Young and dumb I guess.
Madhat!! 3rd Battalion!!! Alright!! I graduated from platoon 3098!!! How do I remember that?? I'll always remember our stress monster Sgt Funk, about 5'7 and maybe 140 pounds soaking wet. 12 years Force Reacon he would tell us, never wanted to be on his bad side!! He was real cool after we passed the test and we got to talking with him.
Semper Fi my brothers!!!!
Oh yeah, and the Marine Corps birthday is such a drag now that I'm out. Nobody to hang with and drink, talk war stories....not that I have any spent my time goofin' in Japan during the Gulf War.
Good thing about Japan.....met my wife there!! Still together since 1991.

As for the rest of the time:
MCRD Parris Island, 3rd Bn, Mar-Jun 86
Swamp Lagoon (I mean Camp Lejeune) 2nd FSSG, Ammo Co 86-92
During that time two deployments with the 22nd MEU. One of those to Liberia in '90 for the civil war there. Then over to the sand box for the first one.
'92-95 as stated above, 1st Light Armored Reconnisance Battalion
'95-98 Recruiting duty, RS Sacramento, RSS Modesto CA.
'98-99 2/11, Echo Battery, Tour cut short because of torn tendons in my left foot and I was unable to make our deployment.
'99-'06 1st FSSG, G-4, Group Ammo Chief.
During that time two deployments with the 13th MEU, once as the Group Gunny for the MSSG and the other as the EKMS (Crypto) Manager for the MSSG. Both of those deployments ended up in Iraq.
Retired in Aug of '06.
I'm working temporarily at Pechanga Casino here in SoCal and we have a lot of Marine units use our casino because it's close to Pendleton. I've seen more Lcpls and Cpls with Purple Hearts than I would ever expect to see.
To all Marines current and former Semper Fi!

Was in from '91-'94 as an 0352/0331. Security Forces on Guam and Kings Bay GA., and the rest of my time in the 2nd MarDiv., 2nd Mar. Reg., Camp Lejeune NC. Also did 4 years in the US Army as an infantryman from '84-'88. My knees are still killing me from being an infantryman in the USMC and the US Army. I really do have to use my steps getting into and out of my truck!
